Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
Yeah, lots of Indians say 'terri ma'aki' all the time on the cricket field, and when they do, it's always the third explanation that they come up with.
This was a a very sad day for INDIAN cricket.

agree Lardy...Gavasker was famous for his attack on WI crowds as just having come from the jungle...it is a vile tradition in banindia......I have never felt the same about India or its cricketers since the Harby racist episode...Dravid and VVS aside

If it makes you feel any better, the non-Aussie cricketing world felt the same way about the Australian team long before monkey-gate.

So I guess he's denying the ball tampering in SA as well.

Sachin comes across as a whiny, entitled arsehole.
Does "I was wrong and I'm sorry' hurt that much? Lying qunt. Go into politics, you're suited to it.
Bang on the button.
FWIW ...I have ALWAYS thought that to be the case with SRT.
There's no denying he was a fantastic batsman and a decent fielder (his bowling was, however, tat).
His "holier than thou" and "I'm so modest about myself" persona didn't quite sit all that comfortably
in my eyes.
Sure, he's revered by the Bannie populace, but I don't believe that to be the case overseas.
My pick, from all the Bannie cricketers, for his absolute modesty, humour and politeness,
coupled to his fabulous record is one Rahul Dravid.

Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
Because this issued was raised tonight they were discussing how people viewed Tendulkar. The consensus was they never really warmed to him despite his magnificent record and longevity.
Maybe because of his record and the fact that he is so revered at home he does feel entitled and assumes that the masses will hang on and believe every word.
Many fans around the world warmed much more easily to the likes of Lara for their charisma in addition to playing prowess but Sachin always seemed a bit arrogantly remote despite humility facade.
While Symonds could behave like a charmless bogan at times he struck one as at least being honest if a tad naive. While the Australians did celebrate the epic Sydney win perhaps with an air of triumphalism and lack of grace the Indians won no fans with their sanctimonious behaviour following the dramatic finale.
In any case they couldn't suspend both Symonds and Harbi because Air India's engines were already warming up if the latter was sanctioned in a way contrary to India's demands.
And Sachin's version of the whole Monkeygate affair doesn't really strengthen his claims in 'Chappellggate'.

>>>
Ponting, who was outspoken about the incident in his own autobiography released last summer, opted not to further fan the flames when asked about Tendulkar’s recounting of the story. “I’ve spoken about it a lot in my book, haven’t I?” Ponting said. “I’ve spoken a lot about it in press conferences and things around the world for a lot of years now. “I’ve got nothing to add to it because he (Tendulkar) is giving his side of events, and I’ve given my side of events in the past. “All I can say is, hand on heart, I did everything I was expected to do by the betterment of the game and by the betterment of society.”

Never defended any of the Indians in this situation given what happened in Mumbai....lardbucket wrote:>>>

But it's always nice to have someone like Ponting stand up for the betterment of the game and society. Now, can he remind how it was to captain a drug cheat, sex pest and "pitch information" provider?

It was an ugly incident to say the least. Of course Bhajji called Symonds a monkey. Of course he did. Doesn't mean many, if any, heard it on the pitch.
Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
Fair enough about the diuretics, but tis still a banned substance. Never been sold on the revealed version of the pitch information story though. Then again, didn't think Wasim should've played after the nature of allegations against him either.embee wrote:Warne pleaded his case ...got leniency on the grounds of the iCC's medical advice ...served his time

My post was just a poke at the ultra patronising tone that Ponting adopted.

I think most of us had a giggle about the diuretics. At least I did. I still think there was a serious cover up of the pitch information.
Boof I also have doubts about. Yes he apologised but does that change his basic mind set?
Monkeygate was a total cover up. I also recall they were warming the engines to get out of SA.

Re: Sachin castigates ChappellG
Boof did more than simply apologise. His original comment obviously emerged from a racist mind set ... only the blind boof-lovers ever denied that. He did apologise publicly for the comment, AND he also acknowledged that it came from something within him that he was not proud of or happy with (i.e. repressed racism) and he stated that he was working to correct what he understood to be this very undesirable trait. I give him some credit for that; since surely acknowledging an unwanted racist impulse within and working to improve oneself is a good thing; at least better than denying the problem altogether or blaming the victim of the slur?
Lehmann didn't deny saying anything, he didn't pretend that he'd said something else entirely, and he didn't pretend that the words constituted a compliment (not even a backhanded one) in the company and society he usually mixed in. He put his hand up with an honest 'mea culpa', 'I shouldn't have said it', and most of all 'it's something I need to fix within myself' etc. Presumably he has continued to work on that.
Harbhajan - unrepentant lying qunt. Tendulkar - supported and continues to support that behaviour.

Perhaps revenge for Gilchrist saying in his own book that "Sachin was often hard to find for a handshake after India lost."?

Apart from Lehmann's actions, what was equally disturbing was that he obviously felt he could say what he said within the confines of the Australian dressing room and not be reprimanded or berated for what he said. The Aussies initially tried to play it off as a "what happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room" incident. If the Sri Lankan's hadn't heard him, would Lehmann's teammates have pulled him up and told him what he said was not acceptable? Or would he have been allowed to get away with it and likely say that kind of thing again?
He was sorry he got caught.
