Re: A pledge to be more positive
Nope, no trolling from me, in either sense of the word. I named no names (apart from beamer), pointed fingers at nobody's character (I expressed a view criticising what seemed to me badly misrepresentative and unhelpful behaviour), and - if you check - suggested nobody should get off this Forum.
I suggested someone - specifically beamer - was being given a righteously (and quite unjustifiably) hard time. And since generally I don't care for such treatment, and think it doesn't do much for the Forum either (FWIW), I said something about it, rather than "look the other way" like a high-minded shrugging Pharisee.
If you think that's getting on a high horse - you should try getting on a high horse, vilks. Or even a sizeable pony.
As for "negging" - it's generally *slightly* infantile, either way. Literally infantile - as infants have little power in decisions and discussions, and can get frustrated, and so learn to "press buttons". We can all press jolly buttons of approval for a post, or a gesture. The RED button generally suggests anger we can't or don't bother to put into words, to articulate with a proper post.
But I've noticed it is (the red button) also used by people who are bothered or harrassed, for whatever reason. Words can't describe the anger, so it's back to infantile "button-pushing". Hey ho.
Better, I'd have thought, to make the botheration/harrying unnecessary? Than neg the negging?
BD - it is indeed, but what sort of Forum? A place for discussion of all sorts of shit including occasionally cricket (loosely quoting Dello here) - or a humour-stripped shit-daubed cubicle where any behaviour goes regardless of factual basis or civil decencies: the sort of small shithouse that may be massively attractive to all, regulars, no longer regulars, and hordes of prospective newcomers alike?

Re: A pledge to be more positive
I called him hyperbolic, in one post. A hard time? Then I said his vitriol didn't look particularly flattering and was akin to a tantrum. Hardly what I'd call harrying him.
Re: A pledge to be more positive
I am a bit of a loss as to who was actually harrying him let alone giving him a hard time.

Aye. The great joy. And stoushes eventually become things of legends anyway. They produce such gold as "why don't you go down to the pub and beat up some pregnant women". Even if I do say so myself.

This thread reminds me of 'nicest forumers'. That didn't turn out as planned, either.

Speaking personally, I derive some meager joy from occasionally coming on here and trying to think up a well constructed put down aimed at someone far more successful and infinitely better at cricket than me. It's not as much fun when they're doing well.

If you are suffering withdrawal symptoms, you could always pretend to be an Aussie for the time being.

Holy shit. This thread is more acrimonious than the England team's post MCG meeting in 2013 when KP and the Big Cheese went at it.
Further to your post earlier Pete - from prior (see what I did there) experience, how do things go down when we (Eng) lose the Ashes? On second thoughts, maybe I'm not brave enough to want to know that.

Or is this internal warfare actually some kind of Bails tradition whereby the winning side is honour bound to eats its own young so as to make the losing side feel slightly less dispirited about having given up the urn so meekly?

F*cks the advent calendar too.
Australia haven't even carried on like a bunch of mincing show ponies either. They've rather meekly taken their beating and skulked off into the distance. Mitchell Johnson's actually been quite likable, the way he's handled all the flak thrown at him from the dickheads in the crowd.
This year's calender's going to be a disaster. Might have to take a year off.

Oi! Don't be lazy - it's under 18 months ago! You can find yr answer via an easy search. (5th Test, Sydney, Feb? 2014 might be the thread.)
Ok, a hunch (I'm feeling too tired to hunt it out either). Usually, remarkably well. A mixture of (a) hearty congrats to Aus, and their outstanding performers, and (b) mountains to fall on the England team, and esp the England management/set-up: in individual variations ranging from paroxysmal hellfire to a sort of serene acceptance - but no internecine warfare to speak of.
Which is probably why some Aussies are inclined to say Poms are too comfortable in defeat - happy in the misery of losing even. Not true of course. But at least no sign of fraternal spats or daggers drawn on the Forum in that case. As far as I can recall.
But memories play tricks. Maybe all hell was released, a la Russ Crowe, Pom on Pom slaughter. [*Goes into Larry Olivier pose:* ]
We few, we happy few, we band of buggers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood, and mine
Shall be a bugger; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall moisturise his complexion;
And gentlemen in England now off-Forum
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their members cheap whiles any speaks
That kicked the shit out of each other on this Saint Crispin’s day.

Piss poor post, particularly the first paragraph. I don't become "hyperbolic" after a good 50 or so. That's hyper-bollocks. I'm just happy to appreciate an important innings on its merits, rather than saying it means f*ck all because he's been shit for the last few games. So piss off and stick to watching your pathetic little county.
Well said, others on this thread...
These teenage-style tantrums are unbecoming. That's the best I can respond to such infantile bullshit.
Time to take an indefinite break from here, I think. Shame, given the sentiment of the original post has led to this sort of stuff being dredged up again.
The Ashes are won. I want to appreciate cricket on its merits and not be told how to feel about players. I may or may not be back.

Yes. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to eat Trev ... also called 'taking the positives'.

Re: A pledge to be more positive
I'm a villain. A bully. I wage campaigns to hound people off the forum, with my incredible nastiness. I'm a horrible human being. Take Merlin, for instance - even though he absolved me, he was lying, because he was scared of me. It was my fault. I'm taking responsibility for the likes of Shoeshine as well (even though I wasn't here, it was the spirit of me that did it). I'm a nasty qunt. So watch out horold, or I'll start a bitter, harrying campaign against you and you won't be able to cope - for I am Brass Villain.
