ToJ was first book, Agree it is pointless as the series and books have diverged so much.

Half tempted to not bother with the books anymore. 1-3 were fantastic but 4 and 5 were a bit of a chore, 5 in particular where it felt that not a lot happened in the last 500 hundred pages. More story lines were opened than concluded. 

I know it's a saga but 1-3 had plot points that were resolved by the end of their books whereas 4 and 5 just felt like a huge set up for what is to follow. 

I suppose I will read the last two, when you've read a Lord of the Rings length book just to get to the set up (in fact I think book 5 was significantly longer than LOTR) then there's too much invested not to finish, especially as there difference in the books than the TV show now.

Have they said if the next season will cover all of book 6?

Or rather do we know how many seasons are left? Wrap it up in a couple or string it out for 4 more?

Depends on the quality of the book of course, book 3 was class and roughly the same length as 5 I would guess (maybe shorter, don't know) so they were able to spread it across two seasons but it was wise to cram most of books 4 and 5 in to one season seeing as how relatively shite they were.

Half expect book 6 to have 500 pages of new characters before we find out about anyone we've met before.

Um, quite a bit happened at the end of book 5 IIRC.

Anyway 6 will start with at least 3 major battles, to say nothing of the JS situation.

GRRM has stated that there will be no new POV characters. And if you read the already released chapters you will see how quickly it is starting.

Perks of the job. There's many perks that come with being the leader of the free world, and United States President Barack Obama knows how to make the most of them. It was revealed at the series premiere this week that Obama has requested advance screenings of the new season of Game of Thrones, and of course that request has been approved. Presidents have a lot of secrets to keep, so we're sure he won't let it slip whether Jon Snow is alive or not.

I'd be more impressed (and maybe a little distressed) if he hooked up with the hot chick with the dragons.

I'd hate to see you watching a full episode.

I must admit, it is going to be a weird experience this season, watching the show without know what's going to happen.
