Because you really need to give tons of abuse to students just before the season proper starts.

Re: English Domestic Season 2017
Meanwhile, we're off.
Lord, Lancs make it hard for their supporters sometimes. I'm not sure if they are Kolpakville, Saff Castoff Central or Geriatric City, .... but a late middle order of Chanderpaul (for a second spell), Vilas (they probably meant Steyn, & got Dane - or is it pronounced "Danni"??) & Ryan Flamin' McLaren .... wta?
Jarvis is fine, proper residence and all that. But once Hameed (started well again - kiss of death?) and Jimmy are called up by England, there's only the flamboyant but genuinely talented Livingstone and the hopefully healthy once again keeper-batsman Davies left - well, maybe the estimable Parry too - to show fresh talent. Not good.

Yep, completely OTT. It's good that the ECB have put down an early marker.

Three wickets apiece for Broad and the Roofer's Brother for Notts v Leics. If Notts aren't odds-on favourite to go straight back, I want to know why.

Hants knock Yorks back on their own midden in West Leeds.
Not a great start to the season for God's Own from the Broad Acres!

That was some effort from Hampshire - very well played indeed
Gloucestershire get rolled for 61 against Kent as is to try to prove that they are more crap than Glamorgan - tough ask!

Dan Lawrence bats all day for 141 to save Essex against Lancashire. That's ton no. 5 in his first class career to date and he's still only 19.

That is almost Mudgelike, minus the sotto voce version of heavy breathing.

Re: English Domestic Season 2017
Liam Livingstone skippers Lancashire today. Not bad for someone who could barely get in their championship side this time last year.
And, while I'm at it - Joe leach's first outing today as Worcestershire captain against Glamorgan. Come on Joe - stuff'em!

Re: English Domestic Season 2017
Captaincy didn't help Livingstone's batting, though! In fairness, he's a late developer. First emerged in latish 2015 - as more a one-day specialist thumper with the useful variety of legspin/offbreak. In 2016 - partly through misfiring of other batsmen after a good season's start by the club - his greater consistency started to secure him chances in the championship team.
He's very much a stand-in skipper - Croft injured vs Essex, Anderson (who stepped into the role vs Essex) not playing this match. Presumably they want to try him for size.
Lots of wickets tumbled before lunch in Round 2 of the CC - 31, I think I saw - most teams bar Durham consolidated a bit thereafter.

Meanwhile, in the nitty gritty of early season green pitch bollocks:
Glamorgan 207 a/o: Worcs. 180/4. Good start for the Pears. No-ones fancy for promotion, which suits us fine, thanks.

Convincing win for Worcs. but it was against Glamorgan who, even allowing for injuries, look a very poor side.

Warwickshire have had two shocking collapses, but would've thought it's a bit early to be pessimistic.
