Re: O/T Interesting and worthwhile essays
Not a bad New York Times article on Murdoch and his spawn. Will provide a link later. Not much new for those who've followed the filth, but some interesting stuff on the sibling rivalry between James and Lachlan.
Many years ago I knew a journo who was related to Murdoch. He did not like her views and she was blacklisted from working for his media outlets. In a country where he owns the bulk of print media, this severely limited her employment prospects.

Rupes as a control freak, who'd have thought that of a billionaire in his senescence who refuses to go sit on a beach with a bevy of well compensated hookers.

Wow! Remember seeing a mini series years ago that seemed a touch far fetched at the time (extreme climate change, digital revolution on steroids and unbelievable media interfere) that now is scarily prophetic. Don't know if it was screened in Oz (possibly for legal reasons) but most of the actors were Australian though most of the action was in Britain and the protagonist was obviously Murdoch.

Interesting. I had been wondering why the 21st Century Fox/Disney deal didn't fall foul to anti-trust.
That deal is not good news for Netflix.

Re: O/T Interesting and worthwhile essays
As I'm binge watching I shouldn't have farked that up but I swear I was just watching a news story on it wear one of the producers praised Netflix. The beer may not have helped.
Can't believe that. Spent two days between here, Angry Birds and that farking annoying intro being that heavy grey tablet and HBO music as the initials appear. Actually fark the beer I blame skully.

Re: O/T Interesting and worthwhile essays
Except it is hardly an in-depth article or essay.
Parts of it are total BS.
I can give you links to listen to morning traffic reports if you want to make the effort.
Of course the ANC have been governing for 25 years now.....

Thanks. I enjoyed that article.
You're right about the infrequency of well written articles on cricinfo these days. I found this (old) one recently, and enjoyed it:

Re: O/T Interesting and worthwhile essays
Thanx Lardy, terrific article. Worth reading by all of us.
Loved this part line (quoted to encourage others to read it)
"bringing up his hundred by driving the ball straight into my sandwiches on the boundary edge at deep extra cover."
I had a heap of players I hero worshipped as a boy. These included Davo, Wes Hall and Sobers. None came close to Wally Grout.
His creams were always grass stained and dusty from throwing himself about. His batting was more idiosyncratic than comical, but I always grinned when he came to the wicket.
When finally I was allowed to keep in under age cricket I always made sure my whites were stained to the point some bleach was required. My family urged me to persist with leg spin.
