RIP Alan Bean. Fourth man to walk on the moon.
Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVIII/The Death Thread 2018
another music pioneer gone in the last few days, not a household name, but responsible for an iconic sound
RIP Glenn Snoddy, the accidental inventor of the fuzz tone. First produced accidentally on Marty Robbins' 1960's hit 'Don't Worry', fortunately recognised as much more than a mistake to be remedied, and later a staple of Keith, Jimi, and legions of imitators. Electric guitar music in the 1970's would have been very different without Snoddy's engineering invention and development.

Thanks.
The old rogue is now threatening to go to Court to contest the international conspiracy that has led to her losing her license. This will be fun as I have made as plain as possible that I will attend and testify against her.

hehehehehe ... not in so many words, but her intent was clear. I am a disloyal and ever disappointing son who now and typically conspires with "Oriental" cab drivers who cannot speak intelligible English of the strino variety. "I am not racist, but my hearing loss means ..."

'Good Schools', a pox upon them all.
The best part of the English language is the ability of any old or young user to flip it around.

Hehehehe ...have always enjoyed cheap shots from the Bar!
Here is a link to a bizarre vid (apols - I may have posted it years ago). The video is of a 'Tribute Album to Andy Warhol'' shot in the studio. John Cale and Lou Reed wrote and sang the songs.
Worth a listen. Cale and Reed hated each other and could barely look at each other. Yet the music and lyrics are extraordinary and devastating.

Probably realised he was only ever an over rated short order cook in an over priced greasy spoon.
Good writer though.

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXVIII/The Death Thread 2018
Sad news re the cook's version of AB.
on Wednesday I picked up a well thumbed copy of 'Kitchen Confidential' from the the bookshelf of a friend. I'd given her the book a long time ago.
It is particularly fine writing about the proletarian nature of commercial kitchens and a rumination on addiction.
I admired his gusto and his role as chief antagonist of Celebrity'food pornographers. In his shows he was at his best when immersed in waste not want not peasant culture. His meditations on Vietnam were always of interest, both food and politics wise.
His cooking recipes all work. I've cooked a heap of them and they all work. His advice is invariably sensible and couched in great humour.
Think I'll cook his version of cassoulet this week and already been planning to cook his Tripe recipe..
Sad he will now not make old age.

That whole condemnation of the celebrity chef culture came back to bite him, which he had the good grace to admit, albeit after prolonged attacks from some of his targets and a large chunk of the industry in general.
That first line in my previous post was one of the nicer things said about him during that period.

Hahaha. He liked greasy spoons. I did enjoy his kebebing of Oliver and that obese upper class English fascistette. Yep, no doubt he was himself skewered by celeb-ness. Despite all that he stuck to the peasant food and an earthy humour that was distinctly his.

Don't get me wrong I loved his shows and books. And skewering the wankers warmed my heart.
I'm surprised he hung himself, though I spouse taking his hero HSTs way out would not gel with his gun control ideology. Though guns are hard to find in France.
