We were actually OK from 1971-1977, so I don't think he can possibly have been involved in training his peers with pies.

Waugh 26 off 27 today against the mighty Kumuls who look like they are going to end up losing by about 300 runs.

I'm surprised that nothing has been said about Afghanistan's 202 run win over New Zealand in their QF.

Re: U19 world cup 2018
I heard a long interview with young McSweeney who opens the batting for Oz. Seemed a really nice kid as well as having a lot of talent. He talked about how helpful Chris Rogers is a batting coach.
Described the Ranga's efforts as amazing, but said he'd once run through the Billies U19 team while still an under age player.

Performance in U19WC has not always been a predictor of greatness. Look at Cam White.
But I'll bookmark Qais Ahmad, the leading wickettaker in the comp, as it is unusual for a leggie to do so well in NZ.

Very good call re the leggie. Our leggie has promise too.
Cam White ain't no champ but had a decent career as have many other players like Maxie Klinger who were U19 players in short and long form cricket. Don't know the proportions, but given the strong pathways program I'd expect most of these kids to get a go representing their States at some stage.
As I noted above MacSweeney is a moral to be play for Qld. Aside from his good numbers, he just exuded determination and hard work as well as great knowledge and acumen about the game.

Re: U19 world cup 2018
Geez, the junior Wackies pooed themselves in the other semi, being rolled for a very shitty and JtB-worthy 69, after the Baby Bannies made 272.
So it's Australia v India in the Final.

From Crocinfo, a nice if slightly dated article which looks at progress from U19 success to top level success, mostly at ODI level:

Re: U19 world cup 2018
Had a look at Australia's U19 squad from 2008 to follow up horrie's question about ratios ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Under-19_Cricket_World_Cup_squads
So it's not a bad ratio, with 11 of 15 going on to have some state representation (either Shield or JAMODD); and 6 of those 11 representing their country at Test or JAMODI level.

Re: U19 world cup 2018
and some Aussie stats from U19 Gilly of 2010, note lots of familiar names ... including one Mitchell Marsh, who at that stage of his career (as I've tried to highlight here before) did not bowl, but was playing purely as a batsman*
*and still IMO should probably revert to that

Re: U19 world cup 2018
So, every one of those 2010 U19 squad members has played at least one State rep game, albeit a T20 in one case and just a single One Day game in one or two others.
So horrie, the likelihood of many or even most of these U19 players representing their state at some stage in future is actually very high, much higher than I expected before doing these searches. The chance of significant success, whether that's international representation or a sustained FC career, is not nearly so high. For every Hazelwood there is a Tom Triffitt and a Luke Doran, plus a few forgettably brief FC careers.

Fairy nuff. Maybe I am cheered with Rogers having a coaching role in the pathways program.
