Bump.

In the recent 1st Test WI v BD at North Sound, Kemar Roach took 5-8 in the BD's 1st innings but due to injury did not bowl in the 2nd.

Taking 5 wickets in one innings and not bowling in the other completed innings is not uncommon, with 10 (including Roach doing it in the 1st innings) and 19 doing it in the 2nd innings.

However only one man has achieved the feat in both the 1st innings of a Test AND the 2nd innings of another Test. Who?

G Giffen - 7/117 & dnb , Eng v Aus, Sydney(4), 1884-85 - he opened the bowling in this 1st innings to grab his 7-fer, but Palmer and Spofforth took the new ball in the 2nd and routed England for 77, rendering Giffen unrequired.

G Giffen - dnb & 6/155 , Aus v Eng, Melbourne(2), 1894-95 - Conningham, Turner and Trumble smashed England for 75 in I1, so 2nd change Giffen didn't get a bowl, but on a flatter I2 wicket, Giffen bowled 78 overs for his 6-fer.
