Very disappointing performance by Afghanistan. They've been dominant in previous tournaments and expected them to do well here but they'll struggle to make it to the next stage from here.

Finally got a win overnight against Nepal , currently Third in Group B but could fall to Fourth if Hong Kong beat Nepal.
Windies qualify for the Super sixes with a 52 run win over Ireland.

So Afghanistan qualify for the super sixes by the skin of Nepal's teeth.
Zimbabwe involved in another last over thriller, this time a tie with Scotland although I think both of them had already qualified so the result didn't matter.

UAE take the last place in the super six despite being smashed by Ireland.
I see points are carried forward into the super six so it's hard to look behind two of WI, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Scotland to qualify for the WC proper. I'd be very surprised if WI aren't one of the two but I wouldn't like to call who the other qualifier will be.

Ireland in a must win match vs Scotland, a loss for the Irish would see them out of final contention.

Re: ICC World Cup Qualifiers
Well the Irish keep their qualifying hopes alive, downing the previously unbeaten Scots by 25 runs.
Under heavy skies Ireland were put into Bat, and scored 271/9 with Andy Balbirnie scoring his Second ODI Century with 105. and along with Niall O'Brien 70 , sharing a 138 run partnership.
The Scottish chase got off to a promising start, mainly thanks to Kyle Coetzer taking to Irish seamer Boyd Rankin.
Coetzer eventually went for a rapid 61 , and Rankin recovered to end up with 4/63.
Ireland faint hopes are still alive, but could be snuffed out if Scotland and Zimbabwe win their remaining games.

Re: ICC World Cup Qualifiers
Windies beat Zimbots by 4 wkts , as it stands Zimbots just need to beat UAE to qualify for the 2019 WC.
The second qualifying spot will then come down to whoever wins in the Scotland vs Windies match.

The Ghanis are messing up their slim hopes of qualifying. Who do you fancy out of WI and Scotland blackadder? You'd think that the Windies will be too strong but Scotland have been in cracking form in this tournament so I don't think an upset is out of the question (hedging my bets there).

Would have to go for the experience of the Windies , but hoping for the upset just so we see a bit of variety in the WC rather than the established test playing nations.

Re: ICC World Cup Qualifiers
UAE has been eliminated, but if UAE pulls out something unexpected and beats or ties Zimbabwe, then Ireland or Afghanistan would be in with a shot.
But barring that unlikely event, it's going to be two of Zimbabwe, West Indies and Scotland.
Fun fact: of the super 6, only Scotland has never won a world cup match, having gone winless in 1999, 2007 and 2015. (UAE beat the Netherlands in 1996. Afghanistan beat Scotland in 2015.)

Ooh, this is looking a bit precarious for the Windies. From the brief highlights I've seen on cricinfo it looks like Scotland want this more but let's see what the WI bowlers can do.

WI have to qualify. If not it would be like a football WC without Italy.

It would have made those who decided to reduce it to 10 teams think again...
A shame for Scotland but they would have been cannon fodder whereas WI could make an impact if they get it together.

Scotland only missed out on qualifying thanks to a bs LBW decision , and the D/L , can't see the Windies getting out of the group stages at the WC.

Re: ICC World Cup Qualifiers
UAE beat Zimbabwe... I thought Zimbabwe were looking pretty set but a later clatter of wickets slowed them down. A six was required off the last ball but was not to be.
Funny old game... the team with zero points in the Super Six with nothing to play for beat the hosts who had everything to play for. Must be gutting for Zimbabwe.
Nice to see key roles played by UAE-born players, including Naveed who dismissed the openers and made 22 off 10 with the bat.
The last super six match, then, decides whether Ireland or Afghanistan qualifies. I believe, though, that a tie or NR would see Zimbabwe through.

Great to see Fox covering these games....even if we have to put up with Dirk Nannes's commentary.

Re: ICC World Cup Qualifiers
Zimbots did a good job at bottling the match . and combined with D/L most likely will miss the WC for the first time since 1983.
Not totally convinced 10 is the right number for the WC , imo should be the 12 Test playing nations + 4 associates.

Only the Irish and Scots can feel slightly aggrieved on missing out.
