England v India, 3rd Test, Trent Bridge, 18-22 August, 2018
Will E-Coli be fit?
Will the Thug be back?
Will the Bannies make changes?
Will this Test go more than 3 days?

Must say it was a spineless effort from the Bannies.

Bit of rain Sunday and Wednesday but it's usually a result wicket so I highly doubt the entire five days would be needed anyway one way or another.skully wrote:What sort of weather is expected?

Difficult to see the Bannies getting back into the series, particularly given the game is at the TB Sanitorium.

Shocking decision to see young Sam Curran dropped to accommodate the thug.
I'm probably in a minority, but TBH I wouldn't be sorry to see Stokes have an absolute shocker to the point of England actually losing the next Test.

TBH I don't quite know how to take this.
The traditional sports view is not to change a winning team. On the other hand Stokes has been found "not" guilty.
However Curran must be spitting blood. He has done nothing wrong in the first two tests, now Woakes has leapfrogged him.

That's the thing, taips.
Curran has played two tests. He was MOM on his debut. Stokes was found not guilty of affray, and being a drunken qunt isn't an offence (it should be ) - but if Stokes has to come back it should have been at the expense of young Pope ... for cricketing reasons.
For crying out loud, how many years have we been saying that our bowling arttack has no variety? It's the best swing bowler in the world (bar none), and a selection of military medium honest toilers who can have spells of brilliance? Almost 10 years since we had a leftie (Sidearse).
What do we do ? Find a decent-looking lefty who's shown he can hold a bat, and he's the fall guy. It stinks.

It does look like an attack lacking variety, no change of pace or angle, the extra height and bounce of Broad the only real variation. But that might not be relevant if it swings round corners anyway. I might have left Rashid out given the likely weather. They're not going to go in with only three specialist top order batsmen (Bairstow won't bat 4 and keep, Stokes and Buttler aren't test number 4's either, they're lower middle order enforcers, you don't want them facing the new ball at sod all for 2).
I suspect there will be a bit of rotation, if the series is won then Jimmy and Sturat can perhaps have one match off each, and allow the younger bowlers to establish themselves.

We're going to the first 3 days of the game and we all arrived in Nottingham this morning early to get a feel of the city. It will last at least 4 full days in my opinion, quote me later if not but i see no way it can be over by Monday. Pope should have been left out because you don't drop someone playing like Curran, it's plain daft. Again quote me but i don't see Pope getting 50 between his two innings and Sam would be more valuable to the side overall. Still, we sit here moaning and they're the experts so time will tell.

Nottingham is one of my favorite cities in England. Been there a few times & always feel at home while i'm there.
Re: England v India, 3rd Test, Trent Bridge, 18-22 August, 2018
I just don’t see a viable option at number 4 if we did that. Bairstow clearly wants to keep wicket. You could argue for moving one of the all-rounders up as they are good enough, but it’s a different mindset, switching to become a top order batsman, and I don’t think it would work.whitburn wrote:We're going to the first 3 days of the game and we all arrived in Nottingham this morning early to get a feel of the city. If you don’t rate Pope that’s fair enough, but you would have to replace him with a regular top order batsman, not a Stokes or Curran. We don’t need a six-man attack, a couple of them may well barely get a bowl.

Why didn't we bat? Conditions are good here.

A gift from Pyjama gives us the minimum we would have wanted at lunch. Not sure what a winning score would be first up, 350 perhaps?
I think they expected it to do a bit more, and for a demoralised batting line-up to implode again. When you’ve just bowled a side out for 100-and-small-change twice then you want to bowl at them again.

I imagine the idea was to put their batsmen under pressure as they have been useless all series. Sensible option would have been to bat.whitburn wrote:Why didn't we bat? Conditions are good here.

This is a win the toss and bat pitch every day, what the hell were they thinking putting India in? Idiotic decision and i disagreed with it as much at 10.50 am as i do at 3-20 pm. Very poor decision.
