Re: England v India, 3rd Test, Trent Bridge, 18-22 August, 2018
After what happened in the previous match you have to put them in even if it’s a road. The weather and swing just haven’t lived up to expectations. But when English heads go down in the field, they really go down. Nothing like a couple of wicketless sessions, we’re capable of that against anyone.whitburn wrote:This is a win the toss and bat pitch every day, what the hell were they thinking putting India in? Idiotic decision and i disagreed with it as much at 10.50 am as i do at 3-20 pm. Very poor decision.
This game could be lost by close of play as the conditions look likely to be good for bowling tomorrow, and we don’t have batsmen who can tough it out.

Paddy Power were offering 4-1 India for this test and i threw £100 on them at those generous odds. Seems i have a good chance of a nice win.

Yep. As I alluded to earlier, reminds me of Ponting's famous decision to bowl at Edgbaston.whitburn wrote:This is a win the toss and bat pitch every day, what the hell were they thinking putting India in? But it looked green, it was cloudy, the opposition were demoralised - surely that’s a bowl without even thinking about it scenario, and a combination of poor execution, the opposition knuckling down, and the conditions not being quite what they seemed are to blame for the outcome?vilkrang wrote:Yep. I've always been of the old school thinking of bat first if you win the toss under any circumstance. You'll win more than you lose and it's always a gamble to put the opposition in.beamer wrote:But it looked green, it was cloudy, the opposition were demoralised - surely that’s a bowl without even thinking about it scenario, and a combination of poor execution, the opposition knuckling down, and the conditions not being quite what they seemed are to blame for the outcome?vilkrang wrote:Yep. There's still a fair chance they'll collapse of course but I hate it whenever we put the opposition in to bat.

Well, there are scenarios where whoever bats is going to be six or seven down by lunch, but I suppose they are few and far between. If it’s going to be a start-stop day with rain you bowl as well.
They just underestimated the bouncebackability of India here, and assumed they had one foot on the plane home.

Yet another top knock from E-Coli. Think he has top scored in most innings for the bannies, other than in one innings in the last Test where he was second top scorer.
Agree sending in the Oppo on winning the toss was not the best decision Root has made. Good to see Rahane make a few. Woakes backed up his performance in T2 with another good performance.
Another 30 or 40 tomorrow and a decent first dig from the Pomgolians will set this up for what will hopefully be a close finish.
I see the Tabloid all round Thuggy had a rather forgettable day.

Skullywag, are we at risk of E-Coli setting some sort of record for highest and second highest scores for their team in a series?

Just about England's toss decision... maybe they don't t have any confidence in their ability to bat out difficult conditions. India's shambles of a batting has hidden what has been an equally woeful English top order.
Finally, a decent batting effort.

Good morning session for England.
Polished off the Indian innings with minimal extra damage, then put on an unbeaten 46 before Lunch.

I said at 10-50 am yesterday that the decision to bowl was stupid and i feel the same now. The weather forecast was spot on for today and the England team made a crazy shout. It was always going to be doing plenty and those 14 wickets in no time were fairly predictable. Win toss bat when the forecast is good every single time.

Even the joke teams of the mid 90s had more spine than this England side. At least Athers, Nasser, and Ramps would spit on the pitch, stare down the opposition bowlers, and guts their way to 30 off 100 balls in these conditions.
Once conditions are even slightly against this lot’s hard hands, counter-attacking, aggression at all costs mindset, they collapse in a pathetic heap.
