Is Jonny out?
Remind me what the Rose Bowl wicket is like.

Terrific the series is alive.
The Bannies are still an outside chance of winning the series.
Wonder if the Thug's return destabilised the team. He had one good knock but bowled like shyte. The Pomgolians played like they were again on tour in Oz (not the last but previous series, when there was no evident team morale).
The Thug may end up being a more divisive influence than Prior and Mr Chinhead.
You have to feel for Woakes who is the better bowler but lesser but still more than useful bat.

Usually a new ball wicket that then becomes very nice to bat on 20 overs or so in. A lot of teams play two spinners.
Been a hot, dry summer down here - though has cooled off in the last couple of weeks. If the weather stays away - and people don't bat like it's a f*cking T20 - I think this one will go the distance, deep into a fifth day.

Vince recalled. Exactly what we don’t need given the approach to batting we’ve seen...

What, someone selected on their weight of FC runs rather than how they're going in Twenty20s?
Meh. We've not got many options, Vince is doing what he was asked to by the selectors and scoring heavily - 2nd highest run scorer in division one (847 @ 56) - in domestic cricket.
Some people were talking up the possibility of Ian Bell being called in for one last hurrah. That's how slim the pickings are. Vince is a quality batman against all types of bowling - not some Keaton Jennings type robotic flapper who is clearly not technically built for anything other than failure. He obviously needs that "breakthrough" innings to get his feet properly under the table, but it's not like anyone else in our top order is banging out hundreds right now. If he plays, good luck to him.

Huzzah. I R Bell is the once and future hope of Pomgolian cricket. Bring him back. That said, on the numbers Vince merits a return.

A quality batsman against all types of bad bowling... but every other good ball he faces ends up in the hands of slip. That’s not going to change. And we’ve got Pope who so far looks like a younger version of much the same. Like Bell, they’re not one-day sloggers but they’re style over substance. We need to find a couple of old school grafters and scrappers from somewhere.Dello wrote:beamer wrote:Vince recalled. Exactly what we don’t need given the approach to batting we’ve seen...

Of course, as I’ve been saying for a while, the other option is to go full JAMODI and try and force opposing captains to set white ball fields. In which case, we play as many of our established one-day batsmen as we can and look to score at six or seven an over.

The batting order needs to be rejigged. If Bairstow plays as a batsman only, he can move to four, Stokes at five and Pope at six.
As for Jennings,

That would set up a decent series finale at The Oval.

Pom XI still not named. Bairstow says he's keen to play and keep the gloves. With a busted finger?? Really??

On Michael Vaughan's positive side, it's not likely to make his keeping worse than it already is.

Shirley they couldn't possibly take Jonny into the Test with a busted finger, no matter what he says to the press?

.... well I laughed. Much appreciated. Disappointed for the kid who looks a real prospect. Poms should have backed him in.
