This forum's history?
When did this forum first start and who is still here from the opening days or weeks?
I joined way back when, then did the overseas work and child making and now have a little more time for these things. How long have YOU been here?

Re: This forum's history?
I've made 152 posts in 14 years, crikey not a great deal then. I can barely believe that some people here have 40, 50, even 90 thousand posts, wow.

I've made a fair amount of posts but can only remember the ones from the past few years.

Re: This forum's history?
Forum was created when the Australian ABC forum & the English C4 forum both closed. There had been some interaction between the two forums so they were joined when Dello created this forum. There is probably some more to it than that but thats the basics,

Dello decided to create a new forum when C4 reduced the operating hours which effectively excluded Aussie posters. A number of the ABC forummers had joined C4 some time before in protest against moderation.
This is actually the second FB as the first one didn't work.

Done that now, i note lots of members since the start then? Before i joined i used to just look now and again, knowing i'd not got time to contribute fully to any forum but from that list i remember the following members seeming quite prolific and some a bit lively. Do we still have Bliksem, Invader Zim, Brass Monkey, JK Lever, Neil D, Merlin?

Bliksem left years ago
Zimmy is occasionally around but not lately
We live in hope Danny will reappear
JKL put work first
Neil D got hitched
Merlin flounced again a few months back.

Re: This forum's history?
Brexit, ah yes, the latest thing to divide a nation in half. What with half the country (those who will be voting for the major two) wanting Labour and the other half Tory, what with Brexiteers and Remoaners going at each other hammer and sickle hourly, what with Trump dividing people in equal amounts it's a divided world i tell thee. Thank goodness we have One Direction to keep us all together!

Re: This forum's history?
Nice to see you looking into the Forum history, w.
This place has well and truly matured into a place that barely ticks along, except when controversies e.g Aus ball tampering back in March, or when the Ashes are on.
We did have a much bigger contingent of Indian friends in the early days but they aren't quite as resilient as English and Aussies at dealing with piss-taking.
The most prolific times for this forum were in the early years when 15,000 posts per month was the norm.
The record month of posting was in January 2008 (22,000+ posts) during the aftermath of a very controversial Test in Sydney between Aus and India, won by Aus in the dying minutes of the 5th day. Indian skipper Anil Kumble accused Aus and the umpires of all sorts of nefarious deeds. This created somewhat of a shitstorm between Aus and Indian posters (and Aus and Indian journos!!) that went on for weeks. The Test was also famous for Monkeygate, when Harbhajan Singh allegedly called Andrew Symonds a monkey. The obnoxious little weed (as described by Matt Hayden) was subsequently exonerated largely on the word of SRT, which angered many senior Aussie players who were apparently ignored at the hearing.
Good times.

Re: This forum's history?
It does seem very quiet compared to a few years ago. Merlin was a name that appeared all the time as was Brass Monkey but i see neither now. Oh well maybe we need the Ashes to bring it to life!

I think Merls might be done but we all hope that Danny (Brass Monkey) returns in due course. We understand his workload is rather large at the moment.

Fromage, the new trustee, couldn't access all of the admin privileges the original creator could, so rather than mess around with a complicated and fiddly re-registering of the forum key holder, it was easier to just rename my old account and give that to him (along with all of its privileges), and start up a new one as a powerless civilian for myself.
That's also why LaFromage's post history seems to be littered with literary gold, wisdom and radical, brain-bending insight that comes to an abrupt end in 2017. He hasn't suffered a serious head injury. He's just not himself any longer.

Just to clarify, conceptually it worked just fine. We built it, they came. But the forum hosts were a bunch of Russian cowboys who couldn't keep their servers from shaking themselves to bits if more than two people turned up at the same time.
Vive la France!
