Re: This forum's history?
Yeah, FB v1.0 lasted a few months I think.Big Dog wrote:taipan wrote:Big Dog wrote:Forum was created when the Australian ABC forum & the English C4 forum both closed. There had been some interaction between the two forums so they were joined when Dello created this forum. There is probably some more to it than that but thats the basics,
Dello decided to create a new forum when C4 reduced the operating hours which effectively excluded Aussie posters. A number of the ABC forummers had joined C4 some time before in protest against moderation.
This is actually the second FB as the first one didn't work.
That sounds about right.
I joined C4 in about 2004, it was a bit of a messy forum with over-enthusiastic moderation and people being banned so frequently it was impossible to keep track of who the usernames were! I managed to only have one username there somehow, apart from at least one "sacrificial lamb" account I registered to entice people over here.
I don't think the C4 forum lasted much longer after that anyway, they had stopped broadcasting cricket a few years earlier and think they eventually got rid of their forums site completely (they had a number of others relating to their shows, including the once unavoidable Big Brother...)

Even without the bannings multi IDs were rife.

I guess it was largely due to the frequent bannings that people had a bunch of them ready to go though... otherwise people would have done the same here.

Just to clarify, conceptually it worked just fine. We built it, they came. But the forum hosts were a bunch of Russian cowboys who couldn't keep their servers from shaking themselves to bits if more than two people turned up at the same time.
Vive la France!
Indeed.
Mon Fromage and Dello both have done great work the great elders cheese on toast debacle aside.

Yep, we all knew it was a problem on the hosting side.
