It's the Paul McGregor Syndrome.

Paul McGregor, the St George Dragons Rugby League team coach. He was stand-in coach a while back and had a really good record in that role, until they appointed him officially to the position. His results then went to shit.

Messi did a number on the Scousers last night. Handy player.
Not a good couple of nights for EPL teams with Ajax knocking off Spurs at home.

Re: Football - 2018/19 season
Wow, what an unbelievable pair of miracles in the Champions League!!!
First, two nights ago, Liverpool put 4 unanswered goals (3 in the 2nd half) past the mighty Barcelona to advance to the Final.
Then last night, Ajax were 2-0 up at home at HT (3-0 on aggregate) before Spurs scored 3 (a hattrick to Moura - including the winner 5 mins into extra time) in the 2nd half to snatch the 2nd Final spot.
Amazing comebacks both!!!

So does this mean that the EPL gets 6 spots in the CL next year?

I thought they'd capped it at four with extra places to be divvied up amongst the countries rich people bank with.

"As per the UCL rules a maximum of 5 teams are allowed from the same league to play in champions league.
The teams that can directly qualify for CL are the teams that finish in top 3 and the 4th place team goes to play-offs where they have to play against another team . If suppose one team wins the UEFA Europa League and provided that they didn't finish in top 4 of their respective league then they becomes the 5th team to represent their league in CL.
Spain’s La Liga was the first league to have 5 teams in CL 2015–16 season with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla (Winners of Europa League 2014–15 & finished 5th in La Liga).
If both the Champions League title holders and the Europa League title holders were from the same top three ranked association (league) and finished outside the top four of their domestic league, the fourth-placed team of their association would be moved to the Europa League."

Right - so if Man U come 5th and Chelsea win the Europa, Man U would sneak into the CL?

Sorry - just reread this. No it doesn't. Only if Man U had won Europa.

Still prefer the league title but it seems to be the era of the impossible, so Europe will do fine.

Re: Football - 2018/19 season
I've met Joe Lewis a few times and he once offered me really good seats if they ever made the final. I just figured it proved how good a businessman he was, as he'd never have to come through. Didn't think it was possible without Harry anyway, now the question is,who cares if he's fit.
You're brother should open his wallet.

Re: Football - 2018/19 season
Was on my way home from my partner's place tonight and was listening to the wireless. One of our comrades in here has a broadcasting relative. He clearly thinks like his relative because he and his offsider were discussing the two classic Champions Leagues semis from the weekend.
They produced a top 5 list of most remarkable semi-finals that then were follwed by drabbish Finals. Our comrade's relative listed two near misses - both from 1999. One was the Rugby World Cup semi where Stephen Larkham creamed a 48m dropped goal to beat South Africa in extra time, and the other was one of this forum's all time favourites - the 1999 Cricket World Cup semi victory by Aus over South Africa when scores finished level at the end but Aus went through on superior super six points.
If you were on another planet, at the beginning of the last over South Africa needed 9 to win. Lance Klusener smashed boundaries off the 1st 2 balls from Damien Fleming. Klusener and Alan Donald then conspired to not make another run in the over before Donald was run out on the last ball without his bat after Flemo rolled the ball down the wicket to Gilly, to produce this magnificent scene...
This spawned the immortal line "what's better than beating South Africa in a semi final? Tying with them and still eliminating them!!!!" (I think it was uttered by Woody).

Yes, 5 for England, which is the most any comp can have.
