Re: Football - 2018/19 season
Meanwhile, I see Arsenal beat Valencia 4-2 overnight to advance 7-3 to Europa League Final, as did Chelsea who beat Frankfurt on penalties.
So it IS English clubs all round in the Champions League (Liverpool v Tottenham) and the Europa League (Arsenal v Chelsea).

Ok that confused me even more. I guess Spurs are best off just taking the whole fourth placed thing out of it

The Europa winner only goes to the CL if they haven't otherwise qualified.

Yes go to the CL next year only if they win the Europa. Spurs are safe regardless because they will finish at least 4th in EPL.

Well there's a lot of scar tissue speaking here, but Spurs can finish third to fifth ATM, so if that happens and the Gooners win Europa will Spurs get a fifth spot?

Might be the only way. Arsenal get Burnley and it wouldn't matter if we had Huddersfield, given our late season league form.

Re: Football - 2018/19 season
To de-complify it a bit...
Chelsea are guaranteed a CL place (alongside Man City and Liverpool) regardless of what happens in Baku, as they will finish third or fourth.
Spurs get a CL place as long as they don’t concede a 3-point and 8-goal advantage to Arsenal... even if they do, obviously winning the CL qualifies them to defend it.
Arsenal get in either by said goal difference miracle, or by winning the EL. 5th place on its own earns nothing (other than a repeat EL chance).
Man Utd cannot qualify for CL, there’s no extra teams from below the top four unless they themselves win a Euro trophy.
If Watford win the FA Cup, they go to the EL group stage and either Man Utd or Arsenal have to start in July If City win it, then Wolves get that particular poisoned chalice by finishing 7th.
Make sense?

Geez man, you're a lawyer. What's doing with your comprehension?
I watched the A-League semi between Perth and Adelaide last night (well the last 10 mins + extra time and penalties). It was another cracking game full of late comebacks.
Firstly Adelaide squared the score at 2-2 right at the death, then did the same in extra time to have the score at 3-3 going to penalties. After the 5 mandatory shots it was 4-4 then the 2 goalies saved 6 consecutive shots (!!! ) before Perth (best side all year) deservedly won passage to the Final.

Just trying to take you back to the good 'ol days when forummers would go all pedantic on you with trivia and CDL rules. Though I used to have to source insurance for people working in tplacs and I'm pretty sure that's where the Euro FA got its inspiration.

Astonishing that a team could lose one game in a season and not win the title.

Re: Football - 2018/19 season
The Scousers beat the previous record of most points to NOT win the title comfortably. Their 97 points easily eclipsed ManU's 89 points for 2nd in 11/12.
I don't think the aggregate points of 1st and 2nd (98 + 97 = 195) is likely to be beaten any time soon.

EPL 27? Isn’t that what they call post-Brexit Europe?
Still, Leeds, Blackburn and Leicester have all won the English title more recently than Liverpool. I’ve got a feeling Spurs will get the job done in Madrid as well...

Now that WOULD break my little bro's (and his youngest son's) heart. Rabid Scouser fans.
