Surely Wade’s last chance.

Wade's best chance for the next match is that both Head and Khawaja are also in line to make way for Smith.

Jofra limps off with what looks like a hammy strain.

By the way, this has been an excellent spell from Stokes.

Deserve a place on the honours board, in the context of this match...JGK wrote:So we’ve had a 19, 23 and 25. Wasted starts.

Stokes reviews for caught behind - and it's a no ball.

Their heads have gone. They may as well be on the plane to somewhere hot for the bank holiday weekend, contemplating their post-England careers and, for those involved in the World Cup, the presumptive MBEs that will have been crossed off the list for this shitshow.lardbucket wrote:beamer wrote:...to win by 300 runs.lardbucket wrote:250 lead up.

Incidentally, what is the most changes England/any Test side has made between consecutive matches in the same series? I’d guess at the one following the announcement of the rebel SA tour in 1989?

That 1989 series was a succession of revolving door changes.

How many positions at risk for England after this game, if they lose? Maybe 5.
Roy
Denly
Archer (injury?)
Buttler
Woakes (worn out and injured)

Yeah, and I think the last time we lost 4-0 at home, a scoreline likely to be repeated in this series.lardbucket wrote:That 1989 series was a succession of revolving door changes.
We used a remarkable 29 players in that series (though unlike the previous year’s WI shambles, only a single hapless captain...) Not sure if anyone but the aforementioned Gower played all six for us?

Bairstow as well perhaps, could drop both keeper-batsmen and play Foakes.lardbucket wrote:How many positions at risk for England after this game, if they lose? Maybe 5.

If Root resigns/is sacked as captain he could sit the next one out.
They’ll probably drop Leach for Moeen to “strengthen the batting”...

To answer my own question, Gower and Jack Russell played all six. Gooch (lbw b Alderman) and Robin Smith played in five. Nobody else for England managed more than three appearances! Five players made their Test debuts.beamer wrote:Yeah, and I think the last time we lost 4-0 at home, a scoreline likely to be repeated in this series.lardbucket wrote:That 1989 series was a succession of revolving door changes.

Australia, on the other hand, made only one change all series, Trevor Hohns for Greg Campbell after the first match.

I believe they would prefer to bat through, and come back out again tomorrow, if they have the opportunity. There's so much time left in the game.
