For the next test (of our cricket fans' sanity) i say bring in Foakes. Add Rashid and if he goes for runs so be it. Whatever. Root as a number 4 batsman, not captain and not 3.
Then decide what this country really wants from it's cricketers. The money is in 20-20 and test matches are being played by knackered out over worked people not giving their best.
Maybe we just tread water in tests from now on and admit we are a 20/50 over country and accept it.
The purists and anoraks will hate the thought but i love the limited overs games and the full grounds say most of us do.

There's not a single reason any world test captain would do that.
3 sunny days to go? Set England 400 and watch them wilt!

The number of blokes who played just one Test in that series (13 for England) must have been close to a record too

The full grounds in Test cricket say there’s still a market for that as well, though... and that amounts to a lot more days of international cricket per year. It might just be that we need to develop an almost completely separate player pool though, and only have two or three playing all formats.Ronnie Sawyer wrote:For the next test (of our cricket fans' sanity) i say bring in Foakes. Rashid is injured by the way. I’d like to see us develop a Test leggie but it never quite happens, Crane seems to have lost his way as well.

Wade throws it away and exposes the rail with 15 mins to go.
And Paine goes as well.

Did the infield umpire give him out lbw originally?

It appears so, the only way Wilson doesn’t have a decision overturned is if he just gets the method of dismissal wrong!JGK wrote:Did the infield umpire give him out lbw originally?

I feel like I might get a told you so on this from MB. At the very least Oz shouldn’t have lost their review.

It appears Paine laughed off the lbw decision by saying he had hit it, not realising it had been caught

And Warner has redeemed his earlier misdemeanours (well, batting and fielding) with some great snatches.
England batting? Well, a furri comment would be enough.

Re: England v Australia, 3rd Test, Headingley, 22-26 August, 2019
This is such a bizarre Test. In a bowlers' match thus far Lasagna's efforts stand out. Surely he is leading MOTM honours at the moment.
The Day 2 pitch no doubt offered a bit but not as much as Day 1 which was also played in some fairly ordinary light. Day 2 was otherwise a good day for batting.
In some ways the Oz batting on Day 2 was more disappointing than the Day 1 debacle. Four blokes bombed hard fought starts.
The Koala really does flatter to deceive. There is no doubting the bloke's ability but his inability to press on is disappointing. Irrespective of the result here it looks like he will pay the penalty with Marnus moving to 3.
Of course Oz bowled well, with Haze taking the honours, but the Poms failed the tests of technique and temperament.
I'm still staggered there are three sunny days left, with the remainder to be played on a flattening pitch. The moaning and defeatism of English commentators like Agnew aside, this match is by no means over. Oz failed to keep its foot on the throat of the Oppo.
The current lead is insufficient. Lasagna and the tail must look at setting a respectable target. Another 120 runs would be handy.
Lyon looked off the boil at Lords and was clearly outbowled by Leach on the last day and it is difficult to imagine the Oz quicks bowling as well. I fear another Horror at Headingly match for Oz.

Come on, this England team couldn’t chase down 300 against Crapsville Under 12’s 3rd XI in the Nowhere and District Junior League Division Seven and a Half.

Your blokes batted beautifully in tough conditions on day 5 at Lords. One bad Session and a bit is out of their system. One good partnership would suffice.

Why move Marnus to three. Smith has been coming in at two for SFA. Time to move up officially.

The same was true of Root. But he would have to bat at 9 to avoid the first hour carnage of an England innings. In fact, he’s best off coming in after the pitch roller.Bradman wrote:Why move Marnus to three. Smith has been coming in at two for SFA. Time to move up officially.

Well despite Australia's Winx like odds the punters aren't totally writing off England at $6.00.

Wow , just wow..16 wickets in a day
As Horrie alluded to, England are by no means out if , Australia need at least another 70 runs. Can't see England capitulating in the Second Innings, and plenty of time to chase down a target.

Three responses to today's (latest) debacle.
1) So it appears that the 85 all out vs Ireland was simply England getting warmed up.
The dress rehearsal in farce underpants.
2) A fitting tribute to Brexit.
All the seaworthiness of a fireship - just like Johnson's unProject.
3) Ed Smith on the phone: "Is that Eoin - Eoin Morgan? Hi Eoin, long time no see, look - are you doing anything in the next couple of weeks?
Would you like a shot at my job?"

I will not be confident at all unless we set a target of 350+.

Well that was some day of cricket (some two days actually).
I feel privileged to have been there.
That said, England aren’t out of this. The Aust tail has been rubbish against Jofra so the lead could well end up less than 300 on the best ground in England for chasing and on a perfect day for batting.
Plus surely some of the England batsmen have some pride and will eke out a few partnerships.
