Speaking of Kennett, it would be handy to still have our infectious diseases hospital at Fairfield.
Heatherton Hospital started as a sanatorium for people with TB. From memory Point Nepean served as a quarantine station. I guess we thought there was no longer need for large scale infectious disease/quarantine facilities.
In the late 80s I had a small involvement in setting up a 4 bed Unit for HIV/AIDS people who were experiencing dementia like psychosis and negligible impulse control. It was a part psychiatric and infection control.
I see Hotel chains are lobbying like crazy for an increase in overseas arrivals to boost business. Gotta love capitalism.

Two weeks mandatory self funded isolation upon entry. The hotels can't lose.

I'm fully expecting Andrews to introduce "Stage 3.5" once the numbers are ok to leave Stage 4 roughly in mid-Sep, but not good enough to re-enter Stage 3.

He'll use it to show he can separate religious doctrine and public policy. Not sure what his mob think about the issue or even who his mob is, some form of Pentecostalism?

Nearly 80k cases recorded in BanIndia in one day. I expect this is the tip of the iceberg. Meanwhile Modi has eased restrictions to open the economy.

I know tautology, and oxymorons , but what's it called when you answer your own rhetorical questions?

And here is the Mad Monk's take on it all. He is keen to let the virus take its natural course with older folks. It is an interesting position to take from someone opposed to abortion and euthanasia.

Just read that. Wow.
Hopefully when it's his own elderly relative- or better still his own 62 year old self - painfully gasping to inhale a few breaths in a closed hospital (if he's lucky) room, dying a lonely death, he has the same Olympian perspective.

Re: Corona Virus
Good points, furry and h.
Listening to the radio yesterday, numerous Mums rang in to support a relaxing of restrictions to allow their year 12 kids to go to a school formal. The argument was that its been a hard year for the kids.
Well boo hoo. Obviously none of these Mums had parents dying in nursing homes or hospitals. These people (and the likes of Abbott) need to get a grip.
I haven't been able to visit my dear Mum-in-law for months due to lock down and she sounds like she's slowly dissolving away in loneliness.
This is a horrendous and scary time for our elderly.

I'm struggling to understand how it fits into his Catholicism. We'll see if his view changes if Pell comes down with it after another trip to the club with him and Gerard.

I think Pell booked his seat years ago. Wonder which one of them paid for lunch. I'm assuming the MMS a member and I think archbishops of Sydney get the same privilege. Strange for someone who took a vow of poverty.

Er...no.
I was making the point that we are all making sacrifices to keep people safe, not have them die of Covid (as suggested should be allowed by Abbott).
