It should be on a challenge basis as per NFL, and with no freeze-frame millimetre decisions. We don’t need the howlers that unjustly decide seasons back.

Yeah, shame for Leicester who I doubt will have much left in the tank with two very tough fixtures remaining. Obviously fans remember trophies rather than finishing 4th, particularly for clubs who don’t have that many of them in their history, but a season in the big league would really help their chances of establishing themselves among the elite.

It is going down to the wire in both Spain & France. Last match of the season in both leagues this weekend.

In the Spanish La Liga, Atletico are on 83 points & Real Madrid 81.
Atletico have an away game against #19 team Valladolid while Real Madrid play at home to #6 team Villareal. Apparently, Real Madrid will win the comp if both teams finish on the same points because of head to head results.

In the French Ligue 1, Lille are on 80 points & Paris Saint-Germain 79
Lille have an away game against #12 team Angers while PSG have an away game against #16 team Stade Brest. PSG have won the Ligue 1 title in 7 of the past 8 seasons so I think it would be good to see a different team win this year.

All matches played on 23 May local time.

Good to see it go to the hangers-on rather than the unrepentant architects of the ESL, anyway. A few European leagues potentially won by underdogs this season.

Well done them.

So we have Lille, Atletico, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan and Rangers as champions this season - all after a wait of at least 7 years for a domestic title.

Normal service for Man City, Bayern Munich and Ajax though.

More chance of aliens from Mars landing and carrying off the trophy. It’s probably been decades since anyone else got within 15 or 20 points of it.

Having said that, though, St. Johnstone, of Perth (not that one!) won a domestic cup double this season. They have an average crowd (pre-lockdown) of around 4,000 and had only won one major trophy in their history before. Only Aberdeen outside the Old Firm had achieved this feat before.

Is a great club manager. Was ok at national level but he got a bit bored with it and quit suddenly part way through a World Cup campaign (IIRC).

He’ll do well at Celtic if given a chance.

Football / soccer is still a fringe sport here, though, and I suspect many if not the majority of AFL and League fans could not even have named him as a former 'football' manager

I thought I remembered him getting some stick from Australians on here, but maybe it was for quitting as opposed to results.
