Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Any chance of a shirtload of rain falling in Melbourne to make that match a draw and thus preserve Tassie’s final hosting status?

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Before the current Shield match v NSW, Queensland’s Test fast bowling prospect had made only 250 odd runs in FC cricket at an average of 14ish, with a high score of 32. He’s made two excellent 5s in this game, bringing his FC batting average above 20, and he’s not finished yet.

Weird phone editing. 50’s. Xavier Bartlett.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Back in 2021/22 season, Xavier Bartlett had an injury & played many club games as a specialist batsman making 310 runs @ 44.29 in the two day games @ 389 runs @ 55.57 in all formats. Since then, I have had the opinion that he could very useful allrounder in the Shield team. He has played some nice cameos in BBL but we've all been waiting for him to show his batting ability at Shield level, so it has been good to see him perform in this match.

And that, kiddies, is why we're stuck with Seasick and Kwaja and Dunder and Mishmash, and why we have not much option except hope like hell Marnus's 15 minutes aren't up - the replacements just aint there
Yup. Been saying it for a while.
I think Wally's complaint about unfair pitches is a valid reason that has contributed to a lack of development of the next gen of Test players.

Unlucky Vomits
Needing a win they sent the wozzies in on a stinking hot day
didnt quite get it right in the first session
2/97 at lunch on day one is about the difference in the game
Sutherland looked to be carrying a back injury (and may have been missing a brain when batting)

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
I see Kurtis Grossman managed to sneak in another failure, presumably as a concussion sub for Konstas, in the NSW second innings.
I thought we’d seen the last of him when he was dropped earlier in the season. Maybe a new start next season will see him right, but I doubt it.

Top scored in both QLD innings, 70 and 69, from number 8. That would be a rare feat.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
This year’s top performers leading into the final:
RUNS
Beau Webster 914 (chance for 1000!)
Cam Bancroft 778 (less than last year)
Nathan McSweeney 762 (not too disappointing horrie)
Oliver Davies 670 (from NSW, so next Baggy Green)
Sam Whiteman 658 (file apparently marked)
Charlie Wakim 635 (“Charlie who”)
Ben Manenti 609 (not bad for a bowling all-rounder)
WICKETS (and average)
Chris Tremain 50 at 15.9
Nathan McAndrew 48 at 18.6
Fergus O’Neill 40 at 17.25
Gabe Bell 39 at 18.7
Corey Rocko 39 at 29.9
Joel Paris 37 at 14.1
Mark Steketee 35 at 25.1
Scott Boland 34 at 15.3
Some pretty good bowling returns there, reflecting pitch preparation around the country. Bolded entries could yet add to their tallies.
