Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
He's the top scorer for the Shield season thus far, and that seems unlikely to change now.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Meanwhile Maddinson (remember him?) and Harris are making hay on a day 4 deck offering little or no assistance. Just as well Tassie batted for as long as they did ... it seems unlikely that the Vics can make that many runs in the remaining time available.
Draw.
Another draw seems certain in Sydney, unless SA collapse hopelessly in their second innings.
Even the WA v QLD game may not produce a result, though WA is on top at present.

I was watching the stream. Was pretty awful. The ball from the quick Meredith did not bounce as much as expected. He didn’t duck low enough. Probably would have concussed anyone but this was Wills umpteenth concussion.
I agree about retirement. He is easily the most talented bat in Oz but he is already a CTE candidate.

Sage point. If the selectors pick him again, there will be a lawyer somewhere down the track who will sue them for contributory negligence.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
The game itself is as weird as hell.
Vics are making a decent effort of chasing 440 odd.
6/358… after some decent knocks other than from Matt Short who had a double failure and bats like NoShow but without the ability.

I guess Puck won't bat unless Vix get very very close for 9 down.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
Q’billies hanging in, 7 down, 185 runs to win. Probably not enough overs for QLD. WA should win and move up above Victoria on the table.
Dubbers could still knock off SA.

SA survive. Nine down, about 30 runs up, and no time left for NSW to win. Tough bikkies.
QLD must bat out 20 overs with just two wickets in hand to deny WA. Only bowlers remain, and Steakette in particular prefers slogging to tenacious survival.

Re: Sheffield Shield 2023-2024
… and they succumb, enabling WA to push for the final (again) and perhaps, perhaps, a home final.
FINAL ROUND (all played 11-14 March)
Tas v SA: Tas should win, at home, cementing a home final. Webster’s performance will be of interest. Can he reach 1000 runs for the season?
WA v VIC: Finalists for the last two years face off; the winners will make this year’s final. If WA absolutely smash VIC, and Tasmania contrive to lose to SA, the final could shift to Perth.
QLD v NSW: neither side can make the final unless the WA v VIC game is drawn; even then NSW is unlikely to overwhelm QLD to the extent required to get enough points to leapfrog VIC and WA. Can’t see it happening. QLD will want to avoid the wooden spoon which looks destined to head in the direction of the Barrels.

Fantastic to see the Spivs miss on a result because of the weather… they were apparently* very happy to survive despite being thoroughly outplayed in their previous game v the Vics.

Really? Why would he want to leave QLD and come to Tas, where he may not get picked? He’d have more oppportunities in South Australia, I’d have thought.
