Re: Celebrity Death List MMXXIV/The Death Thread 2024
I cottoned on to the Masters at the end of the 60s - loved all their singles from 5-10 Man through to their break-up and Future of Our Nation (with what some would see as the ironic exception of the utterly banal and mediocre Turn Up Your radio). Then the line-up was Jim, Doug Ford?, Glenn W who later achieved much greater infamy, and Colin somebody. I know that not all of them were founding members (there was a Brian somebody and a Rob somebody in the early days) but never heard of a Gavin. Where does he fit in?

Wiki says he was a founding member, after The Mustangs rebranded and needed a bass player. They picked Webb to be part of the original line up of MAs.

First 3-4 years and all the reunion tours. Was there before Jim. Replaced by GW around 68.

Or maybe 69?
“Mr Webb's basslines feature on seminal tracks including Undecided, Wars or Hands of Time, Buried and Dead, Hot Gully Wind, Elevator Driver and 1967 national song of the year Living in A Child's Dream”. Not involved in the deliberately loud and offensive, proto-punk TUYR, nor the wonderful, beautiful IBILY.

Cheers Lardy.
I eventually had a look at Wiki and found last names for all the blokes I mentioned, except for 'Rob'. Around 2018, then ABC 774 afternoon presenter Claire Bowditch had Doug Ford, Brian Vautin and this 'Rob' on her program promoting a MA tribute show with Craig Holden (brother of Mark) as vocalist.

I recall Carlton were hot on Pete Davidson's hide pre-Eagles (presumably along with a few other clubs), he played regular Origin from a young age, and as the Eagles were launched he was promoted heavily along with the likes of the late Chris Mainwaring, Chris Lewis and Karl Langdon as the youngsters who would soon form the core of an outstanding team. When he was traded to Brisbane I remember wondering what had happened to him in the meantime.
RIP. Doubtless Mainy will be appreciating the company.

Never had the pleasure of watching him perform but the Allman-Betts band played Byron Bay Bluesfest at Easter this year and played his work faithfully. Devon Allman does have similar vocals to Gregg, and the Betts parts were played faithfully.

Always wondered where the Top Gear opening theme music came from. Thought it was mere studio stuff.

Here you are skully, more Allman Brothers (featuring Dicky Betts and Duane A) and the greatest live album ever made, 1971*.

Afraid not, Mrbucket.
I had never heard the music prior to Top Gear. As you well know, my music knowledge is "philistine" compared to yours.

Here's another Dicky Betts composition, with Dicky on dobro, from the first Allman Brothers album I bought with my own money ...

Nice that my lack of knowledge in your "chosen field" has precipitated a walk down your memory lane.

I don't think my knowledge is special. Your admitted lack of musical exposure when you were younger is something I struggle to understand. You weren't Amish at one stage were you?

LOL.
No, just not as "into" music (TV, radio, records etc) as you were at that age. I think I was more about playing sport with my mates etc., for me, than massaging my rock and roll and general music learnings.
My first memory of hearing a song that caught my attention on the radio was "In the summertime" by Mungo Jerry (early 70s). That may help calibrate my musical knowledge.
