England v West Indies, 3rd Test, Edgbaston, 26-30 July, 2024
After the Windies capitulation on Day 4 of T2, it's hard to see them putting up much of a fight in this one.

They don’t know how to win. At this stage the only win they might enjoy will be due to an opposition capitulation, such as the one that occurred in Brisbane.

I'd like to see Pennington play at Edgbaston now that the series is won.
A word about the Windies - their bowling has great potential, but there's at least one hittable ball per over. As for their batting - it's like watching Derbyshire

Direbyshire it is. Was it LLL that used to get upset by that or have I remembered incorrectly?

Stats watch:
Joe Root requires:
14 runs to surpass Lara’s career total
60 runs to reach 12000 runs in Tests
1 century to draw level with Cook’s English Test century record
Both Sangakkara and Cook are within Root’s easy reach in terms of total career runs, too (< 500), which should be achieved in his next series. That would place him 5th on the all-time list, behind only Sachin, Ponting, Kallis and Dravid.

Same eleven for England. That would be an opportunity lost to have a look at Pennington or recall Potts.

Good start by windies although Louis nearly ran himself out on 0 going for a walk
Braithwaite hit some nice 4s, beaut ball by atkinson [87mph] got rid of Louis.
Then Wood actually hit the stumps shock! Athy dragged the ball on. So pretty even
at lunch.

Once either Holder or Da Silva goes, it'll be over for the Windies pretty quick, sad to say.

Call me impressed. A near 100 run stand between Holder and Da Silva so far.

Those 3 late wkts and its game on.
Weather looks more cloudy tomorrow so not easy for batting.

The impressive Holder, who rarely lets his side down, helped the Ganjas to a creditable 282 after being 5-115.
Then they grabbed the momentum with 3 cheap late wickets. Well done them.

I just hope for WI sake that they can persuade Holder to play every Test on their schedule. Holder, Braithwaite, Seals and Joseph x 2, Hodge, da Silva, a spinner who can bat a bit … a decent nucleus. They just need to find three more bats. I’ve often thought they should have persisted with Hope at 5-6, Mayers in the middle too, and another … perhaps it’s young Alick. Still a major rebuild, trying to find three top order bats at once.

Seales had root on the pad on 3, ump and everyone even seales thought it was easily legside,
so no review, but DRS said hitting out. Pope played on, Brook caught behind driving
with no foot movement. Could be a bit of rain in the air.

If you can make 200 in a Test, and average close to 30 for long periods, surely you should be able to bat at 6?
Don’t even mention Gillespie …
Holder feels more like a Flintoff comparison, and he could bat at 6, though he probably preferred to bat at 7.

they probably don't have anyone better to displace him in either discipline, so it's a moot point all around

So advantage England.
This Smith wickie chap seems to be able to bat a bit.

Windies looking shaky yet again. Root cashing in against the minnows.
