Re: AFL 2008 thread
The Pies are the only bottom 4 team left now. When was the last time a club outside the Top 4 won the flag?

The interchange free kick that was introduced after the Swans got caught cheating ...gives the Swans an advantage ...
It certainly changed the momentum for a while. Higgins had a reasonably easy shot at goal which would have put them 10 or more points ahead. Instead the Swans kicked a point and then a goal right after the kick in and took the lead.
The offence offence committed was not important enough to get a free kick at goal, this should occur only when a team has had 19 players on the pitch. The line markings in the interchange area should be placed so as to make it very difficult to run out in the wrong place.

Out of interest, do Vomit supporters generally despise out of town teams more than Victorian sides, or would Viles rather see Brisbane or Sydney win the flag instead of Collingwood or Carlton?

I associate with the Victorian teams more than the others as i spent my first 7 years in Oz based there. Probably because i wasn't born and bred here i don't despise any team (the way i do Arsenal for instance), not even Collingwood.
Of the Melburnians whose opinion i am aware of i would say that those who hate Collingwood or Carlton tend to be happy for them to be beaten by interstate teams with the exception of West Coast. This wouldn't generally apply to the other Victorian teams.
A lot of Fitzroy supporters suddenly decided that they could support Brisbane back in 2001 and there are still some South Melbourne die-hards who support Sydney.
The same question might apply with regard to Port Adelaide/Adelaide supporters. I don't know many South Australians but I get the impression that those who don't support Port seem to hate them with a passion.

Re: AFL 2008 thread
And we all fell arse over elbow for the 'you're only as good as your last game' chestnut yet again - the teams played 22 home and away games, and then the teams that finished third and fourth beat teams 6 and 8 respectively and we're meant to be surprised.
And as for all the whinging about Essendon 'tanking' to let st Kilda in in the last round: in the second last round Adelaide beat an equally undermanned Essendon by half St Kilda's margin, and a couple of weeks before that Collingwood played them and got their bums well and truly kicked.
Over summer, if Geelong don't fall in a heap sometime in the next fortnight, look out for 'they only won by ducking us' or if they do, 'we showed Hawthorn/St Kilda/WB how' from the Collingwood crowd.

Re: AFL 2008 thread
Of course.
But I love anyone who beats Collingwood. Especially in the finals.
And when it's St Kilda it brings back memories of that Grand Final, which was one of the greatest results in the history of the game . . .
