New EPL/Football thread 2008 (II)
Did ITV really just flick the 'go to commercials' switch just before Everton scored in extra time?
Barking.

If it wasn't for incompetence, ITV would have no competence at all.
Honestly, they're just useless.

Serves the FA right. It's not that long ago since they were praising the BBC's coverage of the FA Cup to the heights. Whatever benefit that might have brought the competition is unravelling fast.

Basil,
Seems others share your view of the FA:

Do people even die of Aids any more? It's not the 80s.
It's basically like a bit of flu now, no?

Last night was f*cking ridiculous. Made worse by the fact a Derby fan lives next door to me.

Re: New EPL/Football thread 2008 (II)
I thought it was a good game. I wasn't even bothered about the result, really, it never meant that much to me - winning the right to lose to Man Utd, that is. Derby played very well second half, but considering who we had available, we gave it a great shot. February 21st is a much more important date; great to have an opportunity for revenge so soon. Like I posted on a Forest forum and then c & p'd everywhere else:
Crises are often spoken about at the top level, but we are probably among the worst-equipped football clubs in the entire country at the moment. Hence why all seven subs last night were kids, where the ones with one first-team appearance could claim to be veterans. Even the team (the starting XI) itself was full of kids. They played fantastically well - all things considered - and I was both proud and embarrassed of them at the end. They gave it their best shot, they played with real heart, but were undone by a side with greater experience and ability all over the park. It was a fantastic football match, probably the best I've seen in years; either side could have won 6-5. We missed a sitter at 2-3 in stoppage time that was simply impossible to miss, it really was, but as fate has it we had a kid doing a man's job and he didn't have the bottle. Such is our injury crisis that we had two kids with four appearances between them plus our best central defender playing up-front for the last twenty minutes.
It's just not on on so many levels, but I'm proud of them because they achieved as much as they could. Even though we lost, even though it was humiliating, I'd love to stand in front of all fourteen players who participated yesterday and give them all a pat on the back and let them know how well they did. Derby were excellent to their credit, it was a real cup classic.

Aye - bit of a case of wanting them both to lose, but once I'd reconciled myself to the fact that this wasn't possible, I did decide that my loathing for the Red Dogs runs deeper than that for the Sheep Shaggers.

We've been here before, but absolutely.
Worst channel ever.
Incompetent qunts broadcasting to the lowest common denominator generally.
90% of its output can without doubt be classed as pleb TV.

Not wishing to be mean to a recovering alcoholic, but Tony Adams has always struck me as someone who is teetering on the edge all the time and probably not cut out for a high-pressured position.

I think giving him the Pompey job was a bit of a hospital pass to be honest. Redknapp knew that they were at the limit of what they could achieve, and that's why he left.

"Hospital pass". Nicely summed up, with extra points for using football parlance.

Joins the list of former England defenders who made crap managers.
I remember Mick Mills & Terry Butcher were constantly touted by Sir Bob of Robson to be the next great managers.
both a pile of turd.

I think Butcher has rocked up at Inverness Caley Thistle, which sort of proves the point!

Re: New EPL/Football thread 2008 (II)
Abramovich is no longer throwing money about like he used to either, seems to have either been "credit crunched", lost his nerve or been scared off by Man City. Selling decent backup players like Bridge and Cudicini, who were seemingly happy to sit on the bench until called upon, in the January window seemed a strange move as well. You need strength in depth on the run-in. But he still sacks the manager despite not backing him with the sort of cash he did with the previous ones.
Seems like an impossible job for whoever comes in. Could they be the next Leeds before too long?
