skully wrote:Righto PJ, you stick to the line that our top 7 is still a gun. I prefer to recognise that we may not be as good as we have been for the past decade. Add the lack of a Warne-type genius and that spells less wins, and more draws and losses. That's the way I see it.PearlJ wrote:skully wrote:Call it reverse-woofing if you like PJ, but a very high standard was set by this great side for the past 10 years. The fact remains that this top 7 is nowhere near the class of many of the top 7s we've had in that time. I hope we keep producing but I fear we may come back to the field (as we did in T2 (I1) and T3 in the Indian series.PearlJ wrote:skully wrote:Absolutely. Hayden is old, Frog hasn't convinced me he is cast iron Test material, Punter showed this summer he is very fallible, Pup is hit and miss, Paris has ended his honeymoon, Roy will never be "Mr solid middle-order player" and who knows what Haddin will do.
Right...... :|
1. Whatever you say, it's still the best Top 6 in the world.
2. Have you seen Hayden play recently? He is back in run machine mode.
3. You set very high standards or you just like to do a bit of reverse woofing
What field? Man, we could fall a few levels and still be high above the clouds.
A high standard has been set but I don't think you can judge a the team, on one mediocre series.
And T2 just went to show that the Australian team is more than the sum of it's parts which I think is the biggest difference between Australia and the ROW.
Think positive man. The Australian team didn't get so much success over the past 18 years by being negative

Get rid of Roy and throw NotParis in that lineup and you're laughing . . .

Perhaps PJ, but you have to be realistic. There are no Waughs, Martyns, Gilchrists, Warnes or McGraths in this current side. I view this period as a time of consolidation and, perhaps, rebuilding. Hayden only has another year or so left in him. The top 2 could look very inexperienced this time next year.

I tend to agree with tac. Nicky seems to ooze class. I think we have to find a spot in the 4, 5, 6 area for Hussey Jnr.

Steyn does it again. To take 13 wickets in two tests in India is an amazing perfromance.
Not looking good for England this summer. This guy could be as good as or even better than Donald.

Steyn could have got five in the second innings. Ntini dropped both Dhoni and Sreesanth off his bowling.

Ntini owes Steyn a particularly large drink for his howler.

And of course Ntini took both the wickets of the men he dropped.

Yep my mistake, 12 from two tests.
117 test wickets at an average of 21.4 so far. Up there with the best. Even some of the best have struggled in India too.

People probably won't agree with me, but I think Morkel has it in him to be better than Steyn.

Morkel has the potential to be very useful but obviously has some problems with his action at the moment. He's straying a lot and looks a little bit like Harmison at times...if he cant sort things out then he'll be very useful. He won't be as good as Steyn though i don't think. Steyn has got it all together and is already up there with the best. Only injury could stop him becoming one of the great fast bowlers.

Morkel is very good too but he seems like some one who would get injured a lot. He shouldn't play useless matches like the IPL.doremi wrote:People probably won't agree with me, but I think Morkel has it in him to be better than Steyn.

His record is very similar to Waqar Younis.
Steyn has played 22 test matches with 117 wickets at 21.4. Waqar Younis after 22 test matches had 112 wickets at an average of 20.
