India v South Africa, 3rd test, Kanpur, 11-15 April
Hopefully both innings will be 3 figures this time by India. And we ditch the 5 bowler crap. Doesn't work for us. And we need to bid goodbye to Wasim Jaffer's test career for now.
Sehwag
Parthiv Patel (more likely Gambhir)
Laxman
Ganguly
Dravid
Yuvraj
Dhoni
Kumble
Bhajji
Sreesanth
Ishant
Tendlya's ruled out for the series, Ishant has been declared fit. RP dropped for Munaf Patel, not the smartest move IMO. If Kumble and/or Sreesanth aren't by the morning of the 11th, Chawla and/or Pathan will take their place.

ffs Munaf 'its a matter of my izzat' patel is back.
Would really like to see Kaif get a chance over Yuvraj. Yuvraj should have to wait a bit longer after his showing in Australia.

Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel have been included in the 16-member Indian squad for the third Test against South Africa in Kanpur. Offspinner Ramesh Powar has also been recalled as a cover for Anil Kumble, who is suffering from a groin injury, while RP Singh has been dropped after his lacklustre performance in the first two Tests.
Both Ishant and Kumble will undergo fitness tests on April 10, after which two players will be omitted from the squad. Two members of the selection committee will travel to Kanpur a couple of days before the match to help prune the squad to 14.
Ishant had missed the first two Tests due to an inflammation to his big toe and a finger injury, both sustained during India's recent tour to Australia. If he passes the final fitness test, his presence will significantly boost an Indian pace attack which has been a distant second-best to the South African fast bowlers in the two Tests so far - Sreesanth and RP have taken three wickets compared to 26 by their South African counterparts.
Kumble's groin injury, though, is a big worry for the Indians, who must win in Kanpur to avoid a series defeat. His four wickets in this series so far has come at an exorbitant average of 60.25, making it one of his worst home series so far. Harbhajan Singh has done much better, with 12 wickets at 33.33, and if the pitch in Kanpur is a turner, Piyush Chawla could come into the picture as well.
Powar is a surprise inclusion, especially after his disappointing domestic season. He ended with 25 wickets in ten games and was left out of the West Zone side that played in the Duleep Trophy. He was chosen ahead of Yusuf Pathan and Mohnish Parmar, two offspnners who have better performances to show from the season.
India's bigger failure in Ahmedabad, though, was the batting, which remains unchanged for Kanpur. With Sachin Tendulkar still unavailable, Yuvraj Singh or Mohammad Kaif might make it into the XI to bolster a line-up that collapsed to 76 all out in 20 overs on the opening day in a performance that virtually sealed the result.
Squad Wasim Jaffer, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Irfan Pathan, Anil Kumble (capt), Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Ramesh Powar, Ishant Sharma, Sreesanth, Munaf Patel.

Ramesh Powar?! How the f*ck did he make the squad? Surely Pragyan Ojha would have been a better option? Or even Murali Kartik- He can clean up on pitches that provide him assistance.

KANPUR (REUTERS) - A strange 24 hour infestation of locusts, combined with a sweltering heatwave that is expected to subside 10 minutes before the toss is what the Kanpur curator has offered as an explanation for the grassless dustbowl on offer for the 3rd Test against South Africa.
Standing in front of 24 industrial strength sunlamps while his ground staff returned pitchforks and hairdryers to the storage room, he explained that the situation was completely out of his control. "Locusts came and ate all the grass on the pitch and then the sun just baked it silly," he said. "All we could do was stand by helplessly and cheer, er, I mean, watch."

Kumble must camp at Kanpur and ensure that the pitch turns square from Day 1.
Munaf coming back is good, Sreesanth does well with threats to his position.

Sreesanth tucked his willy between his legs and screamed 'I want to be a girl'. Scientific fact.

seriously though - one road, one with a bit of juice and one dustbowl would complete the set.

The bloody Indian team management never learns this simple point. They should NOT play tests with 5 bowlers ever. Not even the best bowling sides play 5 bowlers. The last 2 years this experiment has only brought doom to India and we have never won test with a batsman short. We have either drawn or lost.

Makes no sense . . . at all. Why would the best bowling sides want or need to play 5 bowlers?

unless they are conceding their bowlers are no good or that at least (I suspect Violets) is carrying an injury..
the racialator is first picked in the team as a result of his role in the new Indian imperialism...Violets has to be picked as the compromise captain (there is no alternative really as dhonut has burnt his bridges with the older crew) and then their military mediums are injury prone or ordinairy and the selectors are hoping that one strikes it lucky...given the talent of the Indian batting lineup - 5 specialist bats + dhonut should suffice

Picking five bowlers is usually just a bravado gimmick with India. Always ends in tears. Why have four inept displays of bowling when you can have five mediocre ones?, and leave your team minus a batsman? I've always said that if they're going to go for extreme options, they'd be better off with 8 batsmen and two bowlers, with part-timers like Sehwag, Yuvraj and Gangers filling in crap bowling slots no. 3, 4 and 5.

Munaf shows fire and pace
TNN
AHMEDABAD, April 7: Rather than go out shopping or chill out in the hotel pool, the Indians opted for a practice session at Motera on Monday. But were they seriously gearing up for the expected 'dust bowl' in Kanpur when the pitch on which they played is a certified green top?
Checking out Munaf Patel's fitness by making him bowl long stints is absolutely fine but by calling in Gujarat seamer Siddharth Trivedi to bowl at the Indian batsmen, they must have missed that tweaking feeling.
Piyush Chawla is not in the best of form and with Anil Kumble staying away because of a groin strain and Harbhajan Singh nursing an upset stomach, it can't be said that the Indian batsmen had a very fruitful session ahead of the third Test which starts on April 11.
Paceman Ishant Sharma, who is also recovering from injuries and is scheduled to undergo a fitness test with Kumble on April 10, did not join the team at the nets.
MS Dhoni and Sreesanth only batted and did not take part in other drills, leading to speculation about their fitness. Sreesanth is reportedly nursing an injury in his bowling shoulder though BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah had said on Sunday after announcing the team for Kanpur that only Kumble and Sharma would have a fitness test before the squad was pruned to 14.
Chawla bore the burnt of Virender Sehwag's failure in the just-concluded Motera Test. In a flurry of potent strokemaking, the dashing Indian opener latched at everything that the leg-spinner bowled and lofted him straight over his head into the sightscreen and beyond.
Munaf, back in the reckoning after he was sidelined with an injury from the first two Tests, extracted considerable pace and bounce. He time and again pushed Sehwag and Dhoni on the backfoot and even induced an edge behind the wicket.
He also beat both the batsmen on the forward stroke with the one that pitched on the full and moved slightly away. This however was expected given the nature of the pitch on which Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini and Morne Morkel dismissed the famed Indian batting lineup for a paltry 76 in just 20 overs. But the most heartening aspect was the way Munaf ran in and bowled non-stop for more than half and hour in the heat.

Re: India v South Africa, 3rd test, Kanpur, 11-15 April
A terrorist threat to the third test match between Indian and South Africa has placed the fixture, due to start in Kanpur on Friday, in doubt while police and security units begin investigations.
South African team manager, Logan Naidoo, told SuperCricket on Wednesday evening that two potential terrorist groups had been identified but confirmed that that the nature of the threat and it's purveyors had not been confirmed.
"The Sikhs and the Muslim fundamentalists have been suggested but, at this stage, we don’t know who it might be. But the BCCI are not taking it lightly and extra security measures have been put in place,” Naidoo said.
“There are more checkpoints around the hotel and people are being frisked more than usual. We have been in touch with the top brass of the Indian Police in Delhi and their Intelligence Bureau is aware of what is happening," Naidoo said.
“Although they don’t see any possibility of the threat taking place, they want to make sure all possible security measures are put in place and that we feel comfortable with our security.
“We are not taking this lightly -- the players are worried -- so we will respect our hosts’ (BCCI) word on this but keep in touch with the situation. We have asked our own intelligence back home, Nicholls-Steyn and Associates, to look into the matter and they are doing that through their London branch. They are also sending an extra member of their security team to India and he will be with us by Thursday,” Naidoo said.
“It is still early days but if we feel threatened in any way then we will have to seriously consider what we want to do, but for now all we want to do is let people know that, although there has been a terrorist threat, we do not feel under threat at the moment and we have been assured by the BCCI of our security,” Naidoo said.
