Who checks up, if a woman is covered from head to toe, if she is - shock, horror - wearing make-up?
(In case anyone wonders just what Arab women wear under their tents, I've seen some pretty amazing sights in the toilet at Abu Dhabi airport...)

They'd lift their cloaks well before going into the toilets (maybe the floors were wet, or perhaps they were just fearing the sort of experience our local Mightymouse suffered at his graduation ceremony) and revealed the most garish outfits I'd seen in my entire life - huge flannel flowers in mind-boggling colours...

Poor thingie (son of my Tai Chi instructors and brother to The Cool Dude) had his university graduation ceremony last Wednesday. When he tried on his gown for the occasion it was a foot or two too long, but being much too shy to attract attention by complaining, he said nothing, and his parents assured him they'd only photograph him from the waist upward. All went well until he reached the top step of the stage in the packed hall and stepped on the hem...
