Re: The EPL thread (IV)
They had a few chances when Barca went behind, were forced to throw caution to the wind and threw players forward. That's inevitable when you're chasing a game.

So you admit we had more chances? And if we defended like a conference side why could you not create a clear cut chance?

Dearie me cyclops, you are dense today.
I think I've explained why you defended like a conference side. You seem to think I mean you defended badly. Barcelona did create clear cut chances, I've explained that too.

Surely that is what conference sides do?
Where was their clear cut chances? Apart from Henry's header I cannot remember any more. They had nice little trangles outside the box but had nothing inside the box.

Re: The EPL thread (IV)
Over the two legs they had quite a few clear cut chances, which is a miracle considering how United played. If I name them, you'll make up some one-eyed rubbish so it's a bit pointless.
In fact, this conversation is a bit pointless. United are through and deservedly so. They played the role of spoiler well and profited from a Barca mistake with a wonderful goal. Well done.

Brilliant goal from Scholes. Superb.
Yeah, but he was helped in no small way by 'the best player on the pitch by a country mile' ignoring his defensive duties and failing to make a challenge.
What's the Spanish/Argentinian for, 'yes I've seen him and yes he's unmarked, but I really don't give a f**k'?
I don't know, life's a right bitch aint it La La La? Hit for six at home on your own midden by a wasteful Arsenal team that weren't trying and then knocked out of the Champions League by a side with two of it's best players missing all within the space of two days. Christ, I hope fat Fwank comes up trumps for ya tomorrow kid, but just in case he doesn't please give me a call, only I know a bloke that's got some good quality rope going cheap.

You don't ask God, Messi, Maradona or Zidane to defend.
To be fair, Messi usually tracks back a lot more than he did but he's been out for months and months and was off the pace.
Besides, you can't blame Messi for that goal. How about the chump who passed it across his penalty area?
Who is it you support again? You've never spilled the beans. Whereabouts in Yorkshire do you live?

Re: The EPL thread (IV)
The Messi-Deco combination was always a threat to United, but in the end, United deserved to go through. Barcelona is a team that as one lacks confidence as a goal scoring machine.
Nani is a Ronaldo clone, and he's currently playing how Ronaldo did in 2004 when he first came to Old Trafford- All style and tricks but no real substance at the moment. If Ferguson can get him to reach his potential like he managed to do with Ronaldo, then United will have an awesome combination.
As for tonight's game- Come on Liverpool. I don't want those Chelsea cheats in the final.

Actually I'm wondering which game you were watching. FFS, a hopeful shot 2 feet wide of the goalpost by Deco, when Van Der Sar had it covered does not equal a clear cut chance. If United defended deep, they also attacked quite a few times, and as Mak says, only shut shop with victory in their grasp (ie, the last 15 minutes), and attacked with way more penetration and coherent intent than Barca, who had the gameplan of passing away to their heart's content just outside the penalty box and then pass it straight to the defender.

Re: The EPL thread (IV)
When did I say Deco's shot was a clear cut chance?
Oh come on, they shut up shop for most of the game. Their so called "attack" consisted of Scholes or Carrick punting the ball forward out to Ronaldo, Nani or Tevez, who then lost it and ran back to defend with the rest of United's team.
Penetration? WTF? Name a save that Valdes had to make. In fact, I think Scholes's shot was their only shot on target and that came from a mistake and a bit of Scholesy genius.
FFS, you don't seem to be able to understand that Barca's gameplay of "passing away to their hearts content" was dictated by United packing their half. The reason that a few passes went "straight to a defender" was because there was no space with 11 united players all in the same place.
Rijkaard said exactly the same thing at the end. United played negative, defensive football.
There's nothing one-eyed about it. I said they deserved to go through but some of the rubbish you're coming out with is ridiculous. United played defensive football. 'Tis a fact.

I said about him constantly doing what he did last night before, Lara wasn't appreciating it.

Bollocks. Compared to Chelsea with Didier 'tap me on the shoulder and i'll fall over' Drogba, and John 'cheap shot when the ref isn't looking' Terry? Then there's the fact that Fester Adams is their manager.....

Beats Kuyt's armlock in the first leg and the Torres "dropped as if hit with a bullet" second leg - both vs Arsenal.
Scoreline shoulda been 4-2 to the Arse ... but hey, let's not quibble over who cheats when it matters most!!!

Did you watch the match? Barca has 3 shots on target to United's 2. And none of those 3 was remotely threatening.
And both teams had 7 shots all together.
And this is the best stat I think.
Barca had 62.4% possesion but only 47.5% of the matchs was played in Man United's half
Like I said, lots of pretty triangles in areas were it meant nothing.

Chelsea v Liverpool tonight.
Talkshoite going on all afternoon about how there will be rivers of blood in Moscow if its a Scouser/Manc final.
It'll be a bit naughty but the £979 flight might put a few neanderthals off...

Russians don't take prisoners, but if they do, neither the Lubyanka nor the Lgov prisons have ensuite or TV ... so the neanderthals had better be on their best behaviour.

1-1, Liverpool through on penalties.
You heard it here first.
Would probably prefer Chelsea to go through, but it's like chosing between being mungslapped or having a slice of blumpkin pie - can't we just not?
