Current overrated XI
1. How- Kiwis rave about him but he averages 25 in tests
2. Smith (c)- Well, he's just.....Smith
3. Bell- "On the verge of greatness" FFS.....
4. Clarke- Declared a FAC whilst still swimming towards his mum's egg
5. Malik (Shoaib)- Captain's Pakistan yet hasn't even proved himself as a test player
6. Dilshan- Rated as a "Brilliant stroke player" yet he hardly ever comes off
7. Boucher+ -Average 'keeper, average batsman, yet hailed by many as a 'great'
8. Vettori- You'd think he was up there with Warne. Averages 34 in tests.....
9. Broad- Ok he's young, but hasn't really done much to justify the hype...yet
10. Johnson- Can't swing the ball into the right handers, and pretty wayward
11. Southee- NZ'ers are crossing their fingers with him...Might just be shit.
Thoughts?

Re: Current overrated XI
That looks a bang on side, Trev... bar probably Boucher... judging by the mutual masturbation going on, it should probably be Dhoni.

Re: Current overrated XI
To be fair on Bouch, he scores a lot of runs when SA are under the cosh.
Bell isn't overrated. Everyone seems to hate him. And it was on the cusp of greatness, not the verge. Sort it out.
Can't disagree with the rest. Would throw Dhoni, Symonds, Laxman, Sehwag in there.

What about Gayle? Is lauded at times as a veritable superstar, supercool, the best thing since sliced bread yet has a test average in the high 30's. Gets to play a lot on the Caribbean featherbeds as well. Has also been injury-prone of late.

Re: Current overrated XI
I'm going to have to disagree on Smith. He seems to be a walking mass of depravities with respect to his batting technique, but he still grinds the runs out and has scored some tough ones in Pakistan and India in the past. He's not outstanding, but he's getting better, and he'll be taking some records with him to the grave one way or another.
I would disagree with Boucher too and suggest that Johnson, Broad and Southee deserve time before they can be judged.

That's why I thought it was A red post.

Don't be silly. Red's overrated XI would be-
Mckenzie
Smith(c)
Amla
Kallis
Prince
De Villiers
Boucher+
M.Morkel
Harris
Steyn
Ntini
Reserves- Mandela, Tutu, Biko
Coach- Arthur

Smith does get runs. And important runs. Very ugly runs. But runs all the same.

Nah. As a fast bowler, to have the record that he has, playing most of his cricket on the dead pitches of Sri Lanka, is quite an achievement.

Re: Current overrated XI
Continuing on from my earlier post, I think you could make a case for Pietersen being included in an over-rated eleven. As good a career as he has had so far, he has been lauded in some quarters as being comparable to great players, when frankly he is just a good aggressive batsman with a unique way of playing the game. Great by English standards, but some pundits take it way over the top.

That's a bit unfair on the reserves; I haven't made political comments re. those men.
Agree with the rest though.

I'm not saying that he isn't a fine bowler but I really don't think he is a good as his reputation.

Re: Current overrated XI
Symonds surely is, has maybe only had one telling innings. Most of the time his higher scores have followed a flood of runs from the top order players and he hasn't had to face the world's best bowlers (i.e. his own). Batting #6 for oz is a very protected position. Would agree with Clarke for the same reasons.
I.Sharma has done nothing wrong so far.

Yeah sure. Apart from both his tons have come when we have been in the sh!t.
Coming in at 5-84 and 4-119 (becoming 6-134) and he smacks a couple of 150+ scores.

Get How and Southee out of there. Southee hasn't played as many matches to be over-rated yet, and How actually looks to be one of the few in the NZ top order who could become decent test batsmen.

But during that first one against England he was plumb LBW early. That reprieve probably saved his test career.
Against India he was caught behind before he reached 50. With better umpiring he'd be tonless. That reprieve was the catalyst basically behind the bad blood in the Indian series. At least the seeds were sown then.

Dunno who could take How's spot (Maybe Gayle), but Southee could be replaced by Irfan Pathan I guess.
