Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings from India. (finalists of IPL)

Western Australia and Victoria from Australia.

The Titans and KwaZulu Natal Dolphins from South Africa.

The finalists of the English 20/20Cup.



The above 8 teams will play each other in a tournament in India or the Middle East. The winner recieves 5 million dollars (£2.5 million in real money).

Sounds like a cracking idea to me. I just wish they'd do a first class one instead/as well.

You could have a situation where a player has played for an IPL, a county side and an aussie state side!

Yeah, the Indian franchise has the last say. If they decide to keep the overseas player they'd have to pay a hefty penalty to the domestic side.

Hodge, Hussey, Hussey, Voges and Magoffin all possible conflicts.

What a load of rubbish. Normal, domestic sides cannot compete against million-dollar franchises constructed with the sole purpose of playing Twenty20s. The money on offer is fantastic in theory but it will end up going back into that heinous, monstrous abomination to cricket that is the IPL.

Anyway, I'm sick of cricket trying to be football. I don't know if anyone's noticed but football's shit.

I don't know. It could work but if one side has an advantage like that over all the others where's the competition?

There should be a restriction per team on overseas players just for the competition.

Or at the very least allow the other teams to sign players just for the competition itself.

Needs to be worked out I feel...

Magoffin goes back to Aus. after our 20/20 so no conflict there I think. But what about Solanki and others who played in the ICL this year?

ICL teams have no involvement. And the BCCI isn't that strong that it can dictate who plays in the other teams.

Adds a little incentive to this summers T20 anyway.

Imagine if Hants qualify, can you imagine KP not wanting to be there with all the cash floating about!!

Then they play for their domestic team. Don't know how it will work with England and the Kolpaks.

thats the trickiest part. cant imagine the indian franchisees being too keen to let their star players go unless there is enough compensation. and i doubt the other leagues can match the numbers of the ipl

They've also got to agree on a max amount of overseas for each team too.

It's no good having 4 overseas pro's per IPL team if the others can't have that. I can see sides signing players just for these games.

Which would still leave it lopsided in favour of IPL teams.

It is possible that the Indian board will be generous towards ICL players after the success of IPL. It was also agreed, verbally, between the boards that foreign players will turn out for their local teams in the tournament. That undertaking was sought by the England and Australia boards at a meeting in Singapore.

Yeah, that's a good move.

Just thinking about it - the county sides may well be the real whipping boys of the competition unless one of the big sides make it, given that county T20 is the most diluted in terms of the number of teams and therefore possibly the quality.

A big debate going on this morning now between the sky commentators on whether this will be the finish of test cricket.

So 8 teams, ay? Hopefully it's not overdone like the interminable IPL. Otherwise, it sounds like a reasonable concept. And the prospect of wozzie sledging wozzie, and vomit sledging vomit, is not a bad thing.
