Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are in it - but so too are the UAE and Hong Kong.

Are all the games in the competition going to get "full" ODI status?

Just curious.

Think so. Younis Khan has an ODI century against HK.

Probably. There's been a previous incarnation that got the same status.

So even though HK doesn't qualify (and neither does UAE) under the ICC rules they'll still get it.

Eh? IIRC, the Asia cup has been played since the early 1980s. Could be wrong. Or it could be a different tournament.

Here's wikipedia:

Asia cup- all "full" ODIs.

You have a point about UAE, though. HK seems 'fine'.

Hong Kong's only other 'official' ODI matches were the floggings they received in the 2004 Asia Cup.

How these matches can be given 'official' ODI status is beyond me. I thought that's what the ICC's decision about WC qualifiers was supposed to define.

Then again, the ICC's decisions on just about everything are just so much bollocks once money comes into the equation.

The UAE had two 'official' ODIs in 1994's Asia cup, but did qualify for the 1996 WC. They've done jack since then, except lose both their matches at the 2004 Asia Cup by 116 runs. They now get another two official ODI matches in this farce.

Kenya has ODI status. Don't think any of the others have it.

And if Bermuda, Namibia, etc play a few odd ODIs in the Chumps Trophy and the WC, I don't see why UAE and Hong Kong can't.

Bermuda and Namibia QUALIFIED for the WC, and earned spots there, as did UAE once, as have Holland and Scotland.

I don't see any QUALIFYING for this SODIT, just being geographically located in Asia.

Maybe Australia and New Zealand should host a tournament against Fiji, Papua New Guina, Vanutau and Nauru.

Don't they have a qualification for this? I think they do, against the mighty Afghanistan, Nepal, etc.

i dont think they can have certain matches in a tournament as official and others as non-official. has there been a precedent?

the opening round is certainly going to be WGAF. only 3 real teams

World Series in Aus, Mid 90s, Australia, Australia A, England Zimbabwe. All the matches involving the second-best team in the tournament were non-official.

Australia beat Australia A in the final. England and Zimbabwe were equally as crapulent as each other.

LOL.

The match was certainly pretty official when the crowd starting cheering for the underdog. Tubby got really shitty.
