So Somerset doesn't rate Langer's captaincy that highly.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/06/29/scjame129.xml
If that article is to be believed. Can't be too flattering to be ranked below him.
Michael Vaughan disclosed that Smith was questioning his sexuality throughout the series; Duncan Fletcher was enraged by a petty prank of Smith's in the nets at Cape Town; Kevin Pietersen later branded Smith "an absolute muppet".
Not exactly Mr Popular then. But, talking to Smith at Taunton last Friday, none of this washed. To meet him for the first time was to meet a mightily impressive man. No wonder the Somerset players, after his Twenty20 Cup-winning sojourn there in 2005, hold him in such high regard; much higher than the present overseas player, Justin Langer, if recent whispers are to be believed. Smith spoke articulately and intelligently. There was well-placed humour too, especially when discussing the furore over Paul Collingwood.
This journalist is pretty gullible.

I dunno if this thread is about Langer or 'Greeme' Smith.
But Red for all your dislike of Smiff, IMO he is maturing from his early days.
First time I really paid attention to him was in the IPL. Where, through his interviews, he seemed to come across, or at least was smart enough to position himself as, an intelligent, thoughtful and mature fella. Not at all like what i read of him in the early days.
He wuz the goods, guvnor.

Smith is an interesting case. He seems (and probably is) highly intellegent, astute and likeable enough. But get him anywhere near a cricket field and he apparently becomes a complete pr!ck. Which is ironic given that was the very thing he moaned and whined about the opposition being when he was interviewed about the Aus cricket team.

He sounded like a baby when he was whingeing about us sledging him. The poor creature couldn't handle Hayden's goading or Warne calling him an effing qunt. Of course he accused Hayden of being hypocritical because as a religious man he shouldn't have been sledging. That is naive in the extreme.

Well yes, yes he did. And coincidentally that's why we call him the Sook.Red wrote:He sounded like a baby when he was whingeing about us sledging him. I like Graeme Smith. Both as a cricketer and as a person (in terms of how he comes across in his interviews). He whinges a little, but he gets on with the work and has turned himself into a good opener and a reasonable captain. Once again, I can call him a 'multitude of technical deficiencies', yet a multitude that has somehow come to some sort of agreement to co-operate. Credit to him for succeeding in one of cricket's most difficult roles, yet also largely doing so with humility. I do, nonetheless, wish him the very worst luck in the world over the next few months in everything he does.

I don't mind Smith. Anyone who scored 2 double tons against the English is alright in my books.

In fairness, it is a tiny bit distracting at times, the effing qunt namecalling.
Hayden is a religious man?
I thought he was just toe-curlingly devout.
In a sort of "Saffy happyclappy team member meets Schwarzenegger on a Godzilla trip" way.

Kallis retired hurt.
They say, he suffered "bruising but no structural damage."
