The real answer is they were T20 runners up and along with Hants were invited to take part by the WICB because they couldn't take part in the CLT20 because the English season was still ongoing.
As it is both sides are fielding half a first team and half a 2nd xi.

Re: Somerset in the Caribbean 20/20?!
The problem the WICB has is that with the introduction of CCC into our cricket there are now 7 regional teams.
To make it an even number and to fulfill their role as developers of cricket in the Americas they invited Canada last year. Unfortunately Canada are carp and ruined the standard of cricket in most of their games.
So the WICB, who have a developing relationship with the ECB which includes A tours etc, decided to invite the top two English T20 teams to make it an even number but also lift the standard slightly (even weakened county sides should be better than Canada IMHO).
Unfortunately most of the pitches have been terrible for T20 cricket and therefore all the sides have been evened up and whoever wins the toss and bats first pretty much wins.

Yeah, these pitches have been as poor as the Stanford games meaning 130 is a competitive score most times. They've been entertaining though - I love how all the West Indian bats still love to give it licks. Sadly the slowness of the tracks can only encourage medium pace dobbers like Sammy.

How do you lose a 6 over game by 61 runs

The pitch at Barbados is an absolute belter with consistent pace and bounce. Jamaica took the Somerset attack to the cleaners and posted a ridiculous total.
The Jamaica attack is far superior to Somerset with 4 West Indies test bowlers including one world class performer in Jerome Taylor. Given the 2nd string nature of this Somerset side it was always likely to be a thrashing tbh.
But yes, 61 runs is a lot!

WTF??
That's terrible. Jamaica 85-1 off 6 overs, Somerset 24-8 off their 6.
