Vaughan knee will be ok;using SA as springboard to Ashes

England is already excited about the 2009 Ashes and Vaughan feels that SA will be good test in honing his team's skills for that epic battle.
He's also confident his wonky knee can get through the season.
If he regains the Ashes in 2009 he will go down as one of England's greatest ever captains.

I'm talking about on home soil. Of course we thumped the poms in Australia but if he wins twice on home soil it will be no mean feat in the context of the last few decades of Ashes clashes.

You should be more excited about playing the Saffies first. They've got a good chance of giving you a real run for your money.
The next year of Test cricket is going to be awesome.
England - SA (4 Tests starting next week) = Can't wait.
India - Sri Lanka (3 Tests July 2008) = Should be pretty decent.
Australia - India (4 Tests in Oct/Nov 2008) = Can't wait.
Australia - South Africa (3 Tests in Dec/Jan 2009) = Can't wait.
England - India (2 Tests in the winter) = Can't wait but it's a shame the dickheads couldn't agree to more Tests.
When was the last time there was such a brilliant Test fixture list over a year? Can't remember there being this many potentially cracking series' in such a short space of time.

I'm anticipating the Saffie series too, but I'm excited about the Ashes as I will be there for two games.

The only way I can be sure of a ticket is to go on an organised tour. I worked this out after being disappointed in 2005.

Just checked. The tickets aren't on sale to the general public until August-November, depending on which ground you're going to.
Which two Tests are you hoping for? I'm thinking Headingley and Edgbaston if I can manage it.

Any two in succession at this stage. Probably the third and fourth.

So what happens if England are smashed by South Africa and Yaughan plays like crap? Not a great 'springboard'.

Re: Vaughan knee will be ok;using SA as springboard to Ashes
Now, if I've got this right, a springboard actually goes down when you first step on it before it thrusts you skyward. That's how it works, is't it?
Why do I ask..?
Why do I ask..?
- Spoiler:
41.6 Morkel to Vaughan, no run, ooh well bowled! Nice and full and Vaughan squeezes it out
42.5 Steyn to Vaughan, 2 runs, outside-edge first ball, as Vaughan looks to work this off the pads but is swings and straightens and he ends up squeezing it past point for two
42.6 Steyn to Vaughan, OUT, what a ripper! Vaughan's a shaky starter and this did him in, pitching on a length, middle and off, straightening, and he plays all around it, losing his off stump
MP Vaughan b Steyn 2 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 66.66 Vaughan was rooted to his crease and played down the wrong line. Smart, almost predictable delivery to Vaughan. He doesn't move his feet much at the start.
He's got the 'down' bit sorted.
