Some news has just filtered in, Mohammad Asif has been confirmed as the player who tested positive for a banned substance during the Indian Premier League.
The bloke is a complete idiot. Firstly he gets off with it, and then gets done again! Chuck him out for good!!!!
twas a bit obvious once he was caught in dubai. the ipl of course wont be as lenient as the pcb. wonder how the rules are if someone is caught in a domestic tournament. does he get an international ban then?
All sign up to the ICC doping code thingy I guess. Which means even domestic cricket is covered by world cricket to a point. He'll get a big ban I would assume!

FFS. What a waste of talent. He could have been one of the best bowlers of his era.

Third. Who was the one who got banned with Shoaib Akhter before the last WC for a year only to have PCB re-instate them after they had 'proven' they were not sufficiently 'educated by the PCB' what a banned substance was and how it was their doctor's fault who gave them stuff to recover from 'injuries'.....
The Dubai incident would be his second brush and the IPL test now a THIRD. Does a cheat deserve more than 3 chances?
Or did PCB and his doctor fail him in advising again?

Re: Positive Drug Test at IPL
So here it is officially [from Indian Express]:
Pak's Mohammad Asif tested positive in IPL
New Delhi, July 14:: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif tested positive for banned substances during this year's Twenty20 Indian Premier League (IPL), organisers said on Monday.
"The Indian Premier League compared the result from the WADA-approved laboratory in Switzerland with the data collected by IDTM, the Sweden-based independent agency which organised the anti-doping testing in accordance with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards, to confirm the player in violation is Mr Mohammad Asif," the IPL said in a statement.
The lucrative league was organised in April-May.

Nope. The defence this time will be "I had a fight with one of the IPL officials and as revenge, he planted it on me....."
Safe to presume he is a compulsive drug abuser. Shame Shoaib Chuckter smashed him with a bat and missed breaking his leg.

Re: Positive Drug Test at IPL
The Dubai incident could serve a case history of drug abuse even if had nothing to do with taking it on field. But technically that means he is still busted thrice for various forms of drug abuse on or off the field. It merely points to a long history of substance abuse and should be severely incriminating I would believe.....

Re: Positive Drug Test at IPL
A half decent lawyer could successfully defend that the Dubai possession was the same offence as the IPL urine sample...
Warne admitted that he had taken the Moduretics on a couple of occasions to get rid of his chins ...and that was only one offence
So it's a second offence ...depending on the drug in his sample ...

Re: Positive Drug Test at IPL
PAK should start afresh!
- Get rid of Asif for good.
- Send Shoaib to domestic cricket and NOT bring him any where close to the team until he plays hard and behaves well for the entire domestic season
- Send Afridi to domestic cricket
- Drop Yousuf from ODI cricket and if he doesn't like it then let him go to ICl
- Get rid of Malik from the test team and give the captaincy to Misbah(in both forms)
- Get rid of Doctor Naseem.
- Unban the ICL players(atleast from domestic cricket)
Build a team around honest and commited players like Gul, Misbah, Younis etc who may not be as talented as the likes of Akhtar, Asif and others but will certainly bring some sanity to the team. With the return of the ICL players in domestic cricket the competition will be stronger and good talent will inevitably come up.

Nice to see the steel-spined-resolve the PCB showed the first time Asif was caught, and the severe punishment he was given (and accepted with good grace) was sufficient deterrent to Asif offending again.
