If the banned drugs he tested positive for turn out to be performance enhancing, then he should be banned for life.

Unconfirmed reports say Asif consumed Nandrolone again.
If its true then there won't be many rivals to Asif as far as idiocy stakes are concerned.

I don't think BCCI has the rights to ban to him for the life or even from international cricket. At the most they'll ban him for IPL. But that is not going to stop Asif from appearing in ODIs and tests.
And the rumours are that he won't be banned at all from anywhere!!

"15.3.1 in WADA's code says that in the case where an international player tests positive in another country's tournament, the rules of the overall global governing body - the ICC here - are likely to apply"

He may be let off on the basis of technicalities. If that happens that would be shame. The One wrote:wow! so many grey areas for such a simple case. makes you wonder if the cricket world is serious about doping

Re: Positive Drug Test at IPL
There would be an international outcry if Asif is let off for testing positive for a SECOND TIME. In most sports around the world, one positive test is enough for a 3-4 year ban.
Cricket would be a laughing stock around the world if Asif is let off the hook yet again. Lets not forget that he was arrested in Dubai as well for carrying illegal substances, as well as twice testing positive for illegal drugs. You could almost say that the man is an addict.

After the events of the past 2 weeks nothing would surprise me.
The BCCI might support Pak in not banning him to secure their vote.

The link Chandan posted states that it won't be deemed as his second offence since he was exonerated by appeals panel appointed by PCB during first instance.Henry wrote:There would be an international outcry if Asif is let off for testing positive for a SECOND TIME.

Re: Positive Drug Test at IPL
Is Asif really worth the PCB losing all credibility? Aren't they better off banning him and restoring some respect? The guy's a decent bowler when he's not injured (Which seems to be hardly ever) but he's hardly an Imran Khan or Wasim Akram.
Set an example of him, and find another bowler to be Pakistan's spearhead.

couldn't agree more. Even if he was as good as Wasim he should still be banned. PAK will inevitably find a great fast bowler with in a year and a half.Henry wrote:Is Asif really worth the PCB losing all credibility? Aren't they better off banning him and restoring some respect? atleast he would have an excuse. This guy(Asif) bowls at 125-132 KPH and still stays injured for 8 months/yeartaipan wrote:PlanetPakistan wrote:PAK will inevitably find a great fast bowler with in a year and a half.

Zahid wasn't that quick. The fastest he was timed at was 149 km/h, then injury struck and he came back as a middle age looking medium fast bowler bowling at around 135 km/h.
Pakistan seem to be losing their ability to produce genuine speedsters. Abdur Rauf was hyped up a few years ago as being very quick, but he's only been clocking between 130 and 135 km/h.
Gul is the quickest of the current bunch, but he always seems to be getting injured.

Asif pleads innocence [Yet Again].....
:laule: :laule: :laule:
Pakistan bowler Mohammad Asif protested his innocence on Monday after it was confirmed he had failed a dope test during the Indian Premier League earlier this year.
"I have taken no banned substances or drugs and I am innocent," Asif told Reuters in a telephone interview.
"I am hoping the board will support me and help me clear my name. I will take a decision on having the sample 'B" tested after consulting with the board," Asif said.
"I just don't know how this has happened because I have been very careful with the medicines I use," he said.
The 25-year-old was left out of Pakistan's Champions Trophy preliminary squad once the positive was confirmed by the organisers of the Indian Premier League on Monday.
"Obviously in these circumstances he can't be considered for selection. The board has officially informed him of his positive test," Zakir Khan, the PCB's director of cricket operations, said on Monday.
Khan said Asif had the right to appeal and ask for a B sample test, but the board would be discussing the issue with him soon.
"We have been told his test was conducted on May 30 and which has come as positive. We are disappointed and shocked at this development," he said.
Asif, who has played 11 Tests and 31 one-day internationals, was last month detained in Dubai for 19 days for alleged possession of a banned substance.
He was released by the authorities without being charged but a Pakistan board committee is probing the incident to see if he violated its anti-doping regulations.
After his detention, Asif claimed the substance found on him was a ayurvedic medicine he was prescribed by a local Hakeem (ayurvedic practitioner) for his elbow injury
A board official said it would investigate the issue of Asif using ayurvedic medicine and speak to the person who prescribed it to the player.
"We have to see now what substance exactly has been found in his tests," the official said on condition of anonymity.
