Still not entirely sure he's really Test class, as he can't really "make it happen" as a bowler when conditions aren't helping (the X factor). But he is a good lad, motivated and courageous. And has become a decent, wholehearted bowler after all the yip-type horrors.
Used to be another bowler they used to say that about a few years ago - "waste of time when the ball doesn't swing" ..... but he plugged away all the same and became almost an automatic selection until recently. Yorkshire lad - Hoggard I think it was.
Sure JA will have rotten games but he's been the best of our quicks for the last 4 or 5 games, and I think he'll keep improving a while yet.

Aye - Bops for Pattinson in the next Test for me.
Could consider Jones for Broad if you want something a bit different in your attack.
May as well gamble now.

Almost over... not sure why Broad took the single first ball of the over but it hardly matters.

8 matches at 37.77 for Broad, not bad for a tailender

It's not just that he can bat, he's also a gorgeous player to watch (in a cricketing sense).

Precisely. He has the strokes. An Asif Iqbal in the making?

Steady....
I think we (England fans) need to be patient with his bowling much like Flintoffs in the late 90's

The conundrum with Broad is that he is in the side as a bowler, but has bowled poorly in this game, and it should be remembered that these runs while pretty to look at are fairly meaningless in the context of the game.
Can Broad be persisted with in the short term? definitely not as part of a four man attack IMO.

Oh yeah, the boy can play. Dedication, devotion. Turning all the night time into the day.

WHAT?
Where did that one pop up from? Left field ?!
Bops hasn't "done it" at test level, has merely bowled half a dozen overs under Vawn's captaincy
and, whilst surely a future England player, now is NOT the time to gamble with the batting - what
England need is a recognized batsman. So why gash on Shah in favour of Bopara? :?:
Jones (or Hoggie) for Pattinson - deffo yes.

Yeah I was exaggerating, but he can bat. You saw that pull shot (not the top edge)!

Maybe if he can smash a quick 150, it'll all be ok.
Re: England v South Africa, 2nd Test , Leeds, 18-22 July
50 to Broad. Looks like he will top-score. Please don't move him up the order. Please don't move him up the order. Please don't move him up the order.
One of the most worrying things is that South Africa are getting massive scores without their star players scoring any. Once Kallis comes to the party, we can really start shitting ourselves.
