Apart from Cook he was the only realistic choice in my opinion.
I would have still gone for Cook.

Nope, it's on Sky now. Or rather, it's a Sky Sports News understands job, which means one of their little midgets has got somebody to talk.
Brave choice, and an interesting one for moi.

There is no candidate that would not have some obvious flaw in their appointment.

Thankfully, he doesn't seem like the sort of chap that would let it affect his batting in a detrimental way. If anything I think it could improve. This could be the making of him.

That may be true (Bob).
But I recall Strauss responding well (in his batting too) to the job.
I see where you are coming from with Cook. He has an air of FEC about him (he even LOOKS a bit like Mick). But he also looks pink raw, if not red raw. Partly the boyish face. ~ I guess he is the one to succeed (in at least one sense) if Kev doesn't work out.

Aggers on Five Live saying that KP has turned it down, and hints that Rob Key may be the man.

Averaging about 40 I think.
Has been in better form since the resumption after the break for the T20 group stages.
Made 157 and 60 odd in 2 of his 4 innings.

Surely if it was a straight choice as the best batsman it would be Owais Shah with Ravi Bopara an outside bet.
Shah has a better pedigree over the last few ears, Bopara more form and has youth on his side.
Re: Pietersen to be named as England captain
Of course, Key could just be Agnew's straw in the wind ...

Cheers BBB.
No offence but recycling Blob Key seems to indicate that the English batting cupboard is a tad bare.

Re: Pietersen to be named as England captain
Rob Key?!? Madness.
A captain resigns because he can no longer justify his place with the bat, and we think about replacing him with a bloke not deemed in the best 6 bats in England once over the last 3 years and averages less in Tests over his career than the much maligned Vaughan
