G Smith has some explaining to do....
Out of every one involved in this decision i am MOST upset at G Smith.
1- Smith and his team toured PAK and as Osman mentioned there was absolutely no problem.
2- He was playing for the Jaipur team when all those bombs went off in Jaipur. Not only he stayed IN India but also went on to play several matches in the same city of Jaipur.
...and yet now he had been mouthing off about PAK for the last month which i am sure played a huge role in SA's decision to pull out BEFORE all the other white teams.
I still think he is an excellent player and the best captain in the world but i have certainly lost some respect for him.

Re: G Smith has some explaining to do....
It so happens that at the moment with Sharieff pulling out Pakistan Govt. at the moment appear to be without a President, a non-functioning Prime Minister in Minority and no Army Dictator as well. Pakistan is in perpetual limbo waiting for the fanatics to take over.
Things couldn't get any worse than this surely!

Nawaz was always going to end this "partnership"...even a 5 year old would have predicted that.
New president will be announced on sep 6
now back to Smith.

Re: G Smith has some explaining to do....
I'm usually a detractor of all things SA however, I don't think the finger can be pointed at them over this. They are the only non-Asian bloc country to tour in recent times and did so despite dodgy intelligence at the time. From what I gathered they were confined to hotel rooms for most of the tour (outside of playing and practising) and didn't really complain.
It's true that some of the saffas plus many from other nations, stayed in India after the blasts, but I would have thought that Pakistan has a more volatile track record than Jaipur. for that matter us Aussies remained in London after the 2005 tube bombings, principally for the same reason, that there was no expectation that there would be an outbreak of terrorism.
As for Smith and SA, I note he made a statement about a month ago that he thought that the situation there had deteriorated since they last toured and no objective observer could deny that. But the SA reaction recently was that they hoped the right decision would be made. I don't see that as inflammatory.
In contrast in Australia the tone has been very much, and very openly against touring Pakistan all along. And we haven't been there for ten years!!!!!!
Before Pakistanis start pointing the finger elsewhere, I think they should get their house in order.

The tour was as successful as it can possibly be.

No...they didn't just stay in India they stayed in Jaipur, India... the same place where the bombs were going off. BCCI didn't even shift the matches to some other city in IND and Smith still continued to play....how did he know that another bomb would NOT go off in the same city??

...and is that a good thing?
and remember that AUS have made the exact same mistake as PAK in this so called "war against terror".

Oh do shut up. You don't half talk some rubbish sometimes.
Smith stayed in Jaipur because he was getting paid plenty for it. It's called danger money and it's pretty common.
And where has he been mouthing of about Pakistan? I'm sure all he did was express concerns, like everyone else who has spoken on the subject.
Pakistan should sort it's own problems out before it starts to assign blame.

Re: G Smith has some explaining to do....
thats fair enough and he should have admitted that he was willing to to stay in Jaipur because of the cash on the table.... instead he merely talked about the 2 bomb blasts in Lahore and Karachi while not saying a single thing about the series of blasts in Jaipur.PearlJ wrote:

Why does he have to admit anything? It's his life he is dealing with here.

he made a "business decision" to stay in jaipur then why is he trying to conceal it?

He's not trying to conceal anything. He made personal decisions and he doesn't have to explain them to anyone.

In Jaipur the blasts happened for the first time. Lots of cities saw it for the first time this last year. Security is now more tight. It's not like we see them happening every alternate day.

To be fair to Taips how do you justify Aus not touring Pak for a decade now when most countries did over the last 10 years?

Pakistan is a shit place to tour, I was there on business twice . . . I'd use any excuse to avoid myself.

Then surely Taips is entitled to the same when being questioned about his defence for SA over the issue.....???

If SA needs defending I will do it. If SA is in the wrong I will say so.
I guess I am like 95% of posters here in that regard.

Vikas, I didn't exactly defend SA on this issue. I think the facts speak for them self.
