Jason Krejza our secret 'weapon' according to Bayliss.
'Krazy' could prove a secret weapon, says former coach
Chloe Saltau
September 24, 2008
THE Australian who most recently orchestrated the downfall of India's champion batsmen with mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis, Sri Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss, has revealed the Australians have a similarly obscure but potentially potent weapon in their own touring party — off-spinner Jason Krejza.
Bayliss coached Krejza at NSW before he relocated to Tasmania to make a fresh start to his life and his cricket, and always believed he possessed the ability to trouble top-quality batsmen with his sharp turn and attacking mindset.
Krejza was a controversial selection for India because of his inflated first-class average of 45.46 and the decision to overlook the incumbent, left-arm wrist spinner Beau Casson, but Bayliss yesterday compared the 25-year-old known as "Krazy" with both Harbhajan Singh and Mendis, the man who shot to prominence by completely confusing the Indians in Sri Lanka recently.
The unique Mendis is best-known to Australians through YouTube clips of him flicking the ball in different directions like a modern-day John Gleeson, and Bayliss revealed that Krejza had been working on a Mendis-like delivery flicked off his middle finger to the leg side while he was in the Blues squad.
"The unbelievable thing is how accurate he (Mendis) is with those variations," Bayliss said from Colombo. "I know Krejza was working in the nets on flicking it off the middle finger to the leg side, I don't know if he still does it.
"He's a big spinner of the ball, and that could be an advantage. If he does play, he could be a bit like Harbhajan. He could bowl some big-turning, bouncing balls that can be difficult to play."
Bayliss said there was still much to be gleaned from the way Mendis teamed with Muthiah Muralidaran to lead Sri Lanka to a series victory primarily by stifling the Indians' scoring. "One of the things we did well here … was stop them scoring by building pressure from both ends, and it doesn't matter whether you do that with pace or spin, it still works," he said.

Aye. Just WTF was the NSP thinking? I think Ucker must have been on crack and walked in threatening to kill the other 3 members of the panel unless another Tozzie was picked.

My memory takes me back to the time when Richard Dawson was first selected for England: his county coach (Wayne Clarke) bigged him up to the extent that he touted him as a FEC!

Ah! Good old John Childs, couldn't bat, couldn't field - therefore he had to be a bowler.

Mo wrote:"If somebody said to me, 'You're on a plane to India tomorrow', there's no way I'd embarrass myself," said Matthews, never short on confidence.
Mo has always had an extremely high embarassment point ...

TBH, we'd take a 30yo Mo at the moment.
At least then we don't have to play Watto.
