A secret weapon to reduce Flintoff's effectiveness? Empty A secret weapon to reduce Flintoff's effectiveness?

Post by Zat Mon 27 Jul 2009, 06:25

According to Christian Ryan on cricinfo, it may be as simple as getting a couple more blokes who stand over the right side of the bat into the top-order, instead of this bloody obsession with lefties.

Ryan claims that of the 42 Aussie wickets he's taken since the start of Ashes '05, only 18 were right-handers. Of which, six have been specialist batsmen.

Twenty times he's bowled to Ponting, for three dismissals, and Michael Clarke has never got out to Flintoff.

And if the selectors see the article, they may think of choosing Watson to get three righties in the top six. That, of course, assumes that the NSP can read.

Even if they could read they'd be forgiven for not understanding the rape of the English language that is that post.

Actually I've thought this for a while. Ponting and Clarke don't seem as troubled by him either in 2005 and 2009.

Of course the reason might be is that there have been more leftys than Rightys in the AUs top order recently.

But I am only guessing.

I think it works. It's certainly a pain in the arse to captain against.

Though if we're talking Ricky my seven month old niece could fark with his head,

Braddles, the sun coming up in the morning messes with Drunky's head.

SA has make a L/R opening combination a non-negotiable decision. This despite the fact that Aus had been L/L for years in both forms of the game.

Imho if a bowler is good enough to be picked for tests, it shouldn't matter who is facing.

Yeah but Aus L/L combo was awesome. I always preferred bowling against lefties for some reason.

SA has make a L/R opening combination a non-negotiable decision.

Except that their test opening partnership for the next match they play is more than likely going to be Smith and Prince- 2 lefties.

Yeah I know, but that is why Gibbs went on so long and McKenzie came in. You will recall that AB was also used as opener.

Is AB still keeping wicket in any form of cricket? I thought he was being lined up as Boucher's replacement, but is that not so?

I thought many judged AB to be a better gloveman than Boucher, so would seem the obvious progression once Bouch gives it away.

AB has said he wants to concentrate solely on becoming the world's best batsman, and he is also such an electric fielder- South Africa's finest since Rhodes imo, that they'll be better off with him in the slips and at point.
