Yup. Which is in fact what you are happy to do?
Test cricket is NOT test cricket if its an A-side being played. Especially if its a so-called domestic tournament that is being pushed ahead.
Without quality test cricket - your million dollar baby called the IPL is nothing as you wont get the superstars!
I just doubt many of those who so vehemently defend the BCCI's dictatorial stance on this understand this.

lol. you would be more to the point if you said "Give a one-month window like TO is happy to do so that the IPL can go ahead"
its ok for english cricketers to go home for christmas and not accomodate a change in schedule to fit in a test, but its clearly not ok for lankans to earn some much-needed money and keep to their commitment that was made earlier
the way the ipl is scheduled is ideal for the majority of test countries. the english are the only team who's home season it clashes with (windies a bit). the english can either
a) reschedule their home seasons for test matches starting a bit later and maybe with shorter breaks in between
b) offer touring players a bigger financial incentive than the ipl
c) sook
most seem to be doing the last bit well

Ah yes, TO's get revenge on the colonials POV...
I personally couldn't give a crap if the IPL clashes with our domestic game. Other countries FC seasons clash.
It's all about the fact that some are prepared to trash test cricket at the expense of a domestic tournament for me...

Ah yes. Lets change the future tours programme just so a so-called domestic hit and giggle can take place.
Now if i'm not mistaken TO - Danny had you bang to rights on the India tour schedule, so you really don't need to bring that up again do you.
But of course lets reschedule the whole International Test calender for a domestic (apparently) 20:20 tourney.
I'm happy for their to be a month window. How about you have it in your domestic season - as its apparently your domestic tournament?

please, youre smarter than that. it happens to be england due to the peculiarity of their home season. an ipl any other time of the year would have threatened home seasons of 9 countries, so this is a much better option
test cricket seems to be doing pretty well throughout the year, most countries are nowadays playing more tests than ever before. i dont think it under much threat from a month-long tournament

Since your month long tournament started already we have seen:
1. West Indians possibly missing Tests against the Aussies
2. Sri Lankans possibly not touring England.
So, so far it looks as if Test cricket is under threat?

no one is doing that. the lanka tour was not even part of the FTP

No the Zimbabwe tour was = SL tour as a replacement is the fill in for this, and still part of the FTP in essence as there should be a touring side here during that time.

according to the FTP no one has missed a test match
1. the windies played theirs
2. the lankans were never supposed to play in england next year
no one else has mentioned not honouring the FTP. you cant play in the ipl without your national board's approval anyways. the grouse for the lankans in this case is why should they sacrifice their pay in the ipl so that they can be stop-gaps for england. maybe england should offer them a share of the revenue they will generate from the lanka tour

Sure, but that is how your posts (where IPL/BCCI is concerned) come accross.
it happens to be england due to the peculiarity of their home season. an ipl any other time of the year would have threatened home seasons of 9 countries, so this is a much better option
As I mentioned I have no problem with anything clashing with county cricket
If Indian domestic cricket has more money and can tempt the better players there rather than play here - who cares? Thats not even my argument about the IPL
test cricket seems to be doing pretty well throughout the year, most countries are nowadays playing more tests than ever before. i dont think it under much threat from a month-long tournament
The very fact that the money thrown around in the IPL makes people want to play it more than representing their country is already happening and that certain people don't have a problem screwing test cricket over in other countries suggests otherwise....

Pointless arguing the toss with the BCCI blinkered mind-set of TO.
The "do it our way, or else..." attitude reeks of self centred myopia and pseudo patronising of the BCCI's lesser favoured cricketing nations whom they seek to nuture via a short series of limited attention span hit n giggle circus games dressed up as the "real deal" plus a lorra lorra cash.
Bravo!

wow! thats quite an explanation
the aussies refused to tour pakistan. they invited india and lanka. they said they were already busy. pakistan cant take offence at them for not coming over due to someone else not being able to make it

thats why you need a window. people need to get real. for a lot of players money in the ipl is much more than they will get from their national careers. consider the short span of some careers and its hard to ignore, esp when the players dont have the possibility of refusing a properly sanctioned FTP tour if their board tells them to tour. in that situation they would have to retire, and most are smart enough to know that will kill their ipl valuations as well

Which is what I said a couple of weeks back.
The problem is that the window should have been created before the IPL. Not vice-versa.

To be honest I think this debate is never getting anywhere. Anyone who seemingly likes and is interested in the main in International cricket is worried about the situation that is occurring whereby a Domestic tournament is screwing with International cricket.
Those that are pobviously only interested in the BCCI and Indian cricket couldn't give a fark. Will have to wait until Test cricket is farked, there are no more superstars in the game, and the IPL try to wheel out Viv Richards and Sunny Gavaskar to make a quick buck.

Word.
I'll give it 5 years tops, before the limted-mind-span circus followers get restless and the tight global economy bites hard at the million dollar/man spending sprees.
And all this aggro for the benefit of .... errr, just what??
Cricket?!!
Yeah, as if.

i think the window can only be created when they make the new FTP. they cant change the present one, it would be extremely complicated

So in essence you are saying the BCCI went straight ahead and said fark the FTP?

the tour is not part of the original ftp. its up to the lankans to decide whether they want to help out the english or not. if the slcb decides to go ahead with a full side the lankans wont be allowed to play ipl
