Poll: Who will win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?
Who will win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?
While another 2-1 result looks par the course but this time I am afraid Aus has the edge and may well surprise us. The contest may not be as closely fought as is believed. The 'inexperienced' team with new faces in bowling may not be that much at a disadvantage.
While Aus is preparing hard at Jaipur, Indian players have worries plenty. A training camp with selected 16 looks improbable now as is the case with most BCCI policies when hosting series at home. The batting form of it's famed middle order is worrysome. Some of the key players like Dhoni are busy with ad shoots, while others like Pathan, Karthick and Bhajji are more interested in participating in a dance reality show with TV actresses. I am afraid the focus and the seriousness accompanying the series looks missing on the Indian side. On top of that a new selection commitee will come in to select the team. One would have thought that the BCCI would have retained the current selectors temporarily at least for the Aussie series. I only hope the team gets a chance to be on track before it is too late.

I don't see the Rajastan Royals option in the poll?

I'll happily accept a 1-1 draw. I think we'll get burnt on a bunsen at some point but I think Bung and Gump may get us home on one of the quicker tracks.

The good news is that in ten years time this will be played over a series of 50 t20 games.

Meh, they said the same thing when Packer introduced WSC. Test Cricket is still strong today.
I have great faith that the best part of the game will survive WSC II.

I think T20 appeals to Indians as looking back to pre-neutral umpire days, it was obvious none of them understood the rules of real cricket.

Surprise? There is no need for a surprise since Australia is a much stronger team than India.
It can look improbable to only you. It is being held at NCA from 30th September. While Aus is preparing hard at Jaipur, Indian players have worries plenty. A training camp with selected 16 looks improbable now as is the case with most BCCI policies when hosting series at home.

True!
I think you are more busy in your shoots because Dhoni is doing a splendid job in the Irani trophy since last 3 days. Some of the key players like Dhoni are busy with ad shoots,
Pathan and Karthik are not the scheme of test matches anyway. And Bhajji looks focussed in the Irani trophy.while others like Pathan, Karthick and Bhajji are more interested in participating in a dance reality show with TV actresses.
I am afraid the focus and the seriousness accompanying the series looks missing on the Indian side.
That is just your fear because you've not even been watching the Irani tie.
On top of that a new selection commitee will come in to select the team. One would have thought that the BCCI would have retained the current selectors temporarily at least for the Aussie series. I only hope the team gets a chance to be on track before it is too late.
We hope so too. The team will be announced on Monday.

Re: Who will win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?
The Irani Trophy aside, the whole summary is encompassing the last few days leading to the series. One cannot say that Pathan is not in the reckoning for the test series. Guys like Pathan and Bhajji doing dance reality shows days away from the series is not a good thing. When such an important series is ahead, one fails to understand how a player can focus on doing reality shows involving dancing and risking injury.
It is a good thing a training camp is scheduled at NCA. There was no news of this anywhere so I didn't know.
Expecting BCCI or Players to realize self restraint in commercial exercises ahead of an important series is futile I suppose.

what kind of dancing do you do? why should they get injured? you might as well tell them not to do any cricket practice, climb stairs or go to the gym
this seems to be a favourite argument of indian fans. quite a strawman

Chances of ankle, foot injuries, Back or neck sprain etc. are more high in dancing I think. More vigorous choreography means more risks. Anyways it's a question of focus, one that makes me feel uncomfortable.

Re: Who will win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?
It's odd that most people think India will win easily when fact is they will be under most pressure. Aussies don't have anything to lose with their fancied bowling attack retired and the tag of underdogs to some extent. But India following the Lanka test series results and pressure to deliver have more at stake, especially on home with the ghosts of the last Aussie down under series still in the air. The expectations to put it across from both within and from fans is all that greater.

Who thinks India are going to win easily? They know FA about cricket if they do. Australia are firm favourites.
And what dance reality show? When? Where?
