Murray Goodwin reminds me of M Vaughan
Was watching ICL today and Goodwin scored 60+*
What a great player to watch! Surely this guy deserves to play test cricket, is he eligible for England?

Ironically, Goodwin was once dropped from the WA side in favour of Simon Katich because Katich was considered to be a quicker scorer.

he is far far more talented than Katich.Henry wrote:Ironically, Goodwin was once dropped from the WA side in favour of Simon Katich because Katich was considered to be a quicker scorer.
An example of MG's ability at the highest level

He is probably a BETTER player now than he has ever been.

He could have been one of Zimbabwe's greatest. Another "if only" story for a Zimbabwean cricketer.

Reckon he is already one of their greatest, perhaps their 2nd best batsman ever along with Dave Houghton.
In the same series

Maybe i am some what overrating him because i have seen/followed him play very well against Pakistan.

Got a link to that , Trev?
Kat would have been preferred to Goody because he was in the eye of the NSP ...and Kat can score quickly at Domestic level
Goodwin played country cricket in Bunbury (Ippy West) last year

I don't have a link. I read it in an interview with him about 5-6 years ago.

On a similar note
A guy named Ryan Campbell from AUS was batting with Goodwin, he seemed like a really good hitter and is also their keeper. Any info on him?

Re: Murray Goodwin reminds me of M Vaughan
On second thoughts Trev ...its not surprising of the Wozzie selectors ....the same guys who couldnt find a place for Paris in the ODD side ...and told Nicky ( a right hander who had scored a ton for Wanneroo on the weekend) that until he started scoring like his brother ( a left hander who had scored a duck for Wanneroo on the weekend ) he had no chance of making the wozzie team ...thats the main reason he plays for the Vomits
There was another story about a selector mixing up two fringe squad players and constantly calling them by the others name ....one was a tall right arm fast bowler and the other was a short left handed batsman

Campbell played a handful of jamodi's in 2002-03 but retired in 2006. Luke Ronchi may be going the same way as Campbell- Lots of sparkling little cameos, but nothing much of substance.

Soupy has retired ...he played a few games for Oz before the 03 WC to give Gilly a rest ...one of the "first" openers to be given a license to come out and "slog" from the first ball ...

Good enough ...suffered with groin and knee injuries towards the end of career ...he was Gilly's backup for a long time but played as the opening batsman when Gilly was in the team
Campbell kept to MacGill in 3rd Grade for North Perth when they started playing

He embarassed himself doing the IPL introductions on Channel 10 when he had no idea who Farokh Engineer was

hmmm...seems like he was even more unlucky than Macgill to NOT have played more international(especially test) cricket.embee wrote:PlanetPakistan wrote:thanks Trev and embee.

Henry,
I may be wrong but from the very little that i have seen of him Ronchi does NOT look like a quality keeper.

Ronchi's keeping is close enough to any of the pack chasing Haddin and his batting is a lot better ....he needs to learn to do more than "hit" with his batting though...

Re: Murray Goodwin reminds me of M Vaughan
Hows Haddin doing do you think? He's missed a few chances in his test career so far, and he's hardly set the world alight with the bat. Factoring in the fact that he's just replaced arguably the finest WK batsman of all time, about 6/10 so far?

Re: Murray Goodwin reminds me of M Vaughan
Haddin's in a no win situation ....he's following our best batsman keeper and one of our best keeper/batsman ...plus he's already 31 (Happy Birthday Brad) ...and almost every state (bar the Sozzies FFS) has a good young keeper pushing for his position ...
I dont think Haddin is disgracing himself behind the stumps

Goodwin's international record is actually very very similar to that of M Vaughan
