Murray is right about Federer
http://dawn.com/2012/07/09/federer-ranks-alongside-pele-and-ali-says-murray/
I would say Fed is only behind Jahangir Khan and one or two others now.

Michael Phelps and Bradman were also some what good
Ali was perhaps the finest personality of them all but i don't think he was as good a sportsman as Jahangir Khan or Federer.

Re: Murray is right about Federer
More than the number of grand slams he has won, they WAY he has won them marks Federer out as the greatest tennis player of all time. Even if say, Nadal eventually wins more grand slams, he wont be considered as good as Federer because he just doesn't make it look as easy and graceful.
Granted, Fed lacks a bit of charisma as a person, but no one is perfect.

Tiger at his peak was as good as any sportsman. Not seen Nicklaus in action live, so can't speak about him.

Best sportsmen I have seen so far in my lifetime- Michael Jordan, Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Jonah Lomu.
Those guys, when at their best, were way, way superior than anyone else in their sport.

I guess I meant in the contest of a single game. For example, when Lomu was playing at his best, charging down the field, it looked as if children were trying to stop him, not fully grown men. The time when he literally ran right over Mike Catt in the 1995 World Cup springs to mind.
And Lara could hit boundaries at will in full flight, Tiger was winning Majors by 10 strokes in the early 00s.....

You could argue Jansher Khan was better.

Oh yeah, forgot him. The fact that he actually seemed to slow down in the last 10 metres made his time even more incredible.

Wasn't it more the fact that he did the last 10m sideways?

How about Merv Woods who it is said won the Diamond Sculls at Henley by so far he turned around, rowed back down the course & still beat second place home.
