Malik unbanned
Surprised it took so long.
Court lifts life ban on Malik

Former Pakistan captain Salim Malik is free to resume his involvement in cricket after the lifting of a life ban.
A court in Lahore lifted the ban on Thursday, with the 45-year-old Malik telling reporters it vindicated his claims of innocence against match fixing allegations.
The Pakistan Cricket Board banned Malik from involvement in the game after a PCB-appointed inquiry beginning in 1999 and ending in 2000 implicated him in fixing international matches.
Three Australian players accused Malik of offering them inducements to underperform during a 1994 tour.

Re: Malik unbanned
One wag on radio today wished for a return to the days when we had to be bribed to underperform. We just do it for free now.

I just wish he'd get on a light aircraft with a pilot who was sucking on whatever Hansie's pilot was reputedly sucking on.

If I wanted rid of a ban for something, Pakistani courts would be where I headed.

Re: Malik unbanned
I think it's time Azhar was freed of the ban too. 8- 10 years is long enough time to not be allowed to make a living from something a player has lived for. BCCI, SA and PAK did the right thing and in the end it was a farce given that Aus swept their bookie player scandal under the carpet after a nominal fine and the fact that half the boards like SL, WI and Eng whose players were also named did not even bother to find out the truth and rubbished their player involvement without even an investigation.

No, if you get caught, a life ban it should be.

It's the fact that he's essentially been cleared of any wrong doing that annoys me.

Anyone who is caught with bookies should be banned. But it also depends on whether a board is interested in actually investigating to find out the truth in the first place. WI, SL and ENG absolved themselves of their duty to do so. Aus chose top cover up. Only SA, Kenyan, Pak and Indian boards did the right thing and banned their players. In which case the players from Asia and Africa that got the stick were clearly unfortunate their boards did not back them the way the remaining culprits were allowed to get away. Downright unfair and criminal on both sides. There was no parity. This is where ICC failed. It should have got other boards whose players were named to come up with the truth [Ranatunga, A. DeSilva, Lara, A. Stewart etc.] and should not have secretly allowed ACB to sweep away under the carpet the misdeeds of Warne and Waugh Jr.
