Very good, could very well be great in a few. He has to carry his team to a few more wins, though.

Agree with furriner, he is very good for now and is a prolific century maker (18 already is quite amazing), but he has too many periods of poor form and struggles too much against left arm swing bowling.
He can be great in the future if he overcomes those hurdles. One thing is for sure, he is the hardest hitter of a cricket ball in World cricket. I have always known this tbh, but because he plays for a less fancied team people tend to think that Symonds, Flintoff and Afridi are bigger hitters, but that is nonsense.

Even Chris Martin is a better hitter than him these daysWIFAN wrote:Agree with furriner, he is very good for now and is a prolific century maker (18 already is quite amazing), but he has too many periods of poor form and struggles too much against left arm swing bowling.

I'd have to give that title to Yuvraj.

I have seen both of them extensively and Gayle hits the ball further and harder on a more consistent basis.
They are both in redhot form at the moment, but over their careers Gayle is the harder hitter of a cricket ball.

Well there is no way we can even come close to measuring that, but by reputation I would have to agree.

I'd say that Gayle and Flintoff are the hardest straight hitters in world cricket, whilst Sehwag and Jayasuriya are the hardest hitters of the square cut going around.

The thing is Gayle hits hit square cut as fiercly as Jayasuria used too. I have seen him hit many sixes over backward point. Gayles hardest hits are often through or over extra cover. Nobody else hits it through that area with anything close to his power.

He needs to score more runs at test level. With his talent, he should be averaging around 45. As it is, he averages under 40, and hasn't scored a test hundred for 3 years.

He has got the ability, but lacks heart. Pretty much all his test 100's came when the series was already over and his record in world cups is dreadful

Yep he has been a massive disappointment at test level, largely due to a real weakness against left arm swing bowlers.
He and Ronnie Sarwan are in the same boat as far as their careers are concerned. They are both up there with the best in ODI's but have been under-performers in tests.
