Chris Gayle is a prat
A god-given talent with the bat - can't be arsed to apply it
Captain of his side - just can't be arsed
What a waste.

Re: Chris Gayle is a prat
Poor guy really is copping some from all quarters .
Gayle will tell you he is a 'big man' and can take it. Gayle did not mean half the stuff he said in that interview I am sure of it. The fool is certainly in need of some media training and a few extra brain cells. Maybe the media manager should steer him away from interviews with the fairer sex.............
As for his batting in Test matches I agree, he has wasted his talent. In the shorter formats he is awesome however and has applied his talent magnificently.
As captain he has one major attribute and that is the rest of his team really like him and rally around him more often than not (this series has been a sad exception). Tactically he is no batter than any of the others, in fact you could say he is as bad as Lara in that regard. In terms of body language he is the worst captain imaginable, especially in cold weather. He is not a natural leader and I bet he would not complain if they gave the captaincy to someone else after this series.

So who will be the new captain? I can't imagine Sarwan or Chanderpaul want it again. For me, it will be between Bravo, Ramdin, and Nash. But to be honest, I can't imagine them appointing a white guy to lead the Windies. Keepers rarely make successful long term captains, so I don't think it will be Ramdin, either. Bravo it will be, imo.

If Nash isn't given the captaincy, could he play the race card?

Nash is not a realistic option. Sarwan has been treated so badly by the WICB that he has decided to give up on any captaincy aspirations that he had. Shiv should never be captain again, he is far happier without it.
Bravo will be a fine captain in the future but he is just coming back from an 8 month layoff and has hardly any captaincy experience. The last thing he needs right now is the captaincy.
For me it would have to be Ramdin who has the pedigree as he was one of our best ever under 19 captains. He has also found his batting form over the last few months.

Re: Chris Gayle is a prat
It's a difficult situation when all the obvious candidates have had a go before. Picking a captain from outside the set-up is always a move of desperation because usually that player isn't good enough to be in the team. Specialist bowlers are usually not considered which brings the candidates down to 7 players, of which 3 or 4 can usually be dismissed as youngsters or clearly not captaincy material. So where can you turn when the remaining players are all ex-captains? England have had exactly that problem in the T20 recently!

Hence why Ramdin is the only realistic option if the board decide that Gayle was serious in making those comments and needs to be removed from the post.

if this thread is about his recent comments then i should remind every one that..........
at the end of the day Gayle has the right to like or dislike what ever the hell he wants.

Yes, but he doesn't have to go public with it like that, it isn't exactly helpful to the team he's supposed to be leading. I'm sure there's lots of international players who don't like a particular format much, but they either keep quiet and get on with it or just don't play in that version!PlanetPakistan wrote:at the end of the day Gayle has the right to like or dislike what ever the hell he wants.
Anyway, this particular thread was more about his general attitude and apparent lack of motivation at times.

Fair enough - but as a representative - as the WIndies Captain - he has a responsibility to think before he makes crass remarks to the press that reflect the insensitivity/stupidity on his part.

Re: Chris Gayle is a prat
i don't think Gayle meant it either but you never know. I think Gayle is the best option unless Sarwan wants it again. I don't think he was ever given a long run. He usually captained when he was vice captain and Lara got injured. When Lara retired Sarwan got injured after a couple matches and Gayle took over. Shiv cannot captain, period. I don't really buy Bravo as captain. He never captained a team before the WI team. Ramdin is probably next in line if Gayle gives it up.

Agree- it wasn't very smart
I just hope that he plays all 3 forms of the game for as long as possible because when in full flow he is one of the most entertaining batsmen to watch.
